Good morning,
As a newbie in Z-scale, I have been looking to pick up some used equipment, but there doesn't seem to be very much used AZL stuff out there. Even Micro-Trains stuff is pretty limited on eBay. I suppose this has to do with the amount of Z-scalers out there, but since AZL has been going at it pretty hard for a few years now, I would expect more used AZL equipment on the market. I know that, several years ago, AZL sold out of their products very quickly and I assume that was due to very short production runs. Any opinions or ideas on the lack of used AZL stuff???
Also, would AZL consider putting a Buy/Sell/Swap section on this forum?
Thanks for looking.

Dave, Have you tried Rob K.'s site : www.ztrackresale.com ? I've found that on the commercial resale sites, Z scale is offered more for the collector market. A while back, a loco was offered (and sold) for $300 more than AZL was selling it on their site. Generally speaking most of the used equipment I've purchased have been from people I've met on the forums. As for manufacturer mix, AZL is currently most desirable particularly since much of their line has not been seen in Z before and people don't easily give them up. MTL is a bit more common in resale. With AZL GP and F unit releases, people seem to be upgrading. Märklin seems to be the most common resale: they appeal to collectors and the designs are a bitt stale after 20 years. Hope this helps. Mark

I think most z scalers are hoarders too.

I looked on ztrackresale and there are 3 AZL passenger cars (all new, current models) and 3 freight cars.
I checked eBay and there is exactly one AZL item that is "used". All other items are listed by resellers.
It appears that when people buy AZL products, they hold on to them.
Regarding Micro-Trains, I have been able to find everything I wanted for MTL cars; I suppose since they have been making Z-scale for 30-40 years, some of the older stuff comes up for sale for various reasons.
Please keep in my mind I am not complaining or bashing anyone, just observations and conversation starters.

Hello Dave and welcome to Z!
Please let us know what your needs are. I myself have been collecting equipment for my layout, which is still a work in progress, but probably have more then I will actually need. If there is something that you want that is surplus to my needs, I'd be happy to pass it on to someone that could put it to better use. I suspect that there are a number of us on this forum that are in the same position. Just let us know.
Again welcome to Z and enjoy!
My regards, Cliff

AZL is a higher quality rolling stock released here in USA. I haven't found ANY used AZL other than the occasional fleebay. Few and far between, but I don't watch fleebay like a hawk either. The only reason I have more Micro-trains is because they are easier to get hold of in my area at the train shows.

I want to thank everyone for your input and the offers to sell some of the rolling stock. At this time, I would really like to find, like some others here, is a set of the Coalporters in the BNSF green end scheme. I would also be interested in a set of the UTLX 90502 23,500 gallon tank cars. Thanks again for the replies and I would like to hear more opinions and conversations.

Hi Dave, Unfortunately, I do not have either of those items, surplus or otherwise. Perhaps one of the other folks can help with these. Sorry. Regards, Cliff

I would also be interested in a set of the UTLX 90502 23,500 gallon tank cars. Thanks again for the replies and I would like to hear more opinions and conversations. I'm fairly new to Z as well. There are some Z buy/sale groups out there...I can't really claim success with many of them though. I would recommend posting "Want Ads" on places like that or Trainboard and see what happens. The biggest challenge I'm finding is that just about everything AZL is only available in 4-packs. And 99% of the time I only want 1--maybe 2 tops--of a particular car. If I want two, I have bought the 4-pack and sold two, but be prepared for that to take time and/or a little hit on the price. Another problem being finding a suitable jewel case for them for shipping. So, if you're looking for cars, that might be where you find them is folks like me that bought 4 but only want 2 or 3 (or bought them after the immediate release and the singles are no longer to be had.) Regarding your requests, I don't have either available, even as singles. I've looked for that same UTLX set, too actually! I can say that if you are just looking for generic black tank cars, you can often find the logo'd versions available and it's pretty easy to remove the logos from the AZL tanks. I don't think there are any other UTLX-marked sets, but some ACFX like the Darlings and a few others. Finally, check MBK's clearance section...used prices for new items. I do have one or two of the first round run of Corn Syrup cars in the "basic ADM leaf" scheme that I could make you a deal on if they would interest you. Also have some TTX and BN single Husky Stack cars too.

To bring a thread back from the dead,
One thing I have noticed, my HO stuff takes up BOXES of room and I am motivated to cycle some in and out due to that.
Z scale I can store like hotwheels and it is great!

Welcome to Z and the forum.
And like hotwheels, you can carry them in a shirt pocket. I've even been known to carry a throttle and 3 pieces of track to test out locos I'm buying, again in my shirt pocket.
