Just a quick question for the AZL folks...
Will there be corn syrup cars coming in a company other than ADM?
Thanks and regards, Cliff

Absolutely! We have a long line of releases ahead, in many different companies and liveries.
We have added three more road numbers to the RTTX run. These are:
91109-2F RTTX RTTX 89' Flat 990965 2x M548 (sand yellow) 91109-2G RTTX RTTX 89' Flat 980553 2x M548 (sand yellow) 91109-2H RTTX RTTX 89' Flat 973002 2x M548 (sand yellow)
We also have a number of other BethGon releases planned. Patience my Z scale friends....

Just a quick question for the AZL folks... Will there be corn syrup cars coming in a company other than ADM? Thanks and regards, Cliff Yeah, the release schedule has really not been stellar. Maybe which schemes are "coming soon" and some order that the others will come? (i.e. not necessarily WHEN, but the order) If we're gonna have nine releases of Cargill in a row that would be nice to know. I think you guys have been hanging around Micro-Trains too much. I now have four ADM cars that I really don't want versus the second and third release that I do want but no funds now. Then I'll get funds and the corn syrup cars will be: BNSF warbonnet, Pennsy, Star Wars, and Hyundai.

Guys, remember AZL uses contract manufacturing. I can tell you from personal experience, unless you are the major customer of the manufacturer, the rule is: on time, on budget, on spec: pick two. Anyone willing to pay $10/car more to get a better delivery schedule?
But I do have a question regarding the syrup cars: are they really that common in 1:1 for all the cars being produced in 1:220? I rarely see them in N. California.

I don't know if "better delivery schedule" is accurate. We're not wanting them faster or even to know when they'll be released, just...perhaps a little more varied and some heads up that you're gonna do three variations of a single owner would be nice. This is akin to announcing a "50 States" run, then doing three consecutive "Oklahoma's". While I did expect to see the ADM "Molecule" at some point, I didn't expect it right on top of two other runs. And with the first run, I assumed that would be "it, forever" for the ADM leaf since I don't think you often see two consecutive runs of a scheme like that. The first run was missing the topside reporting marks (a rarity in real life for the real Leaf logo ones to not have the numbers) but I never in a million years thought they would turn around and immediately (or, ever) release the "good ones" like they did, so I bought a four-pack of the first run. So, I'm stuck with them while really wanting the others. So I'll try to sell them, probably eventually will at a loss, and then all the singles from the subsequent runs will be gone. Thus, the frustration. Anyway, not a huge deal, I'll survive. But manufacturer reps of most model railroad companies are always saying such-and-such item isn't selling....well this is one reason why. Some of us do have finite budgets, especially over a short period like this. Regarding the prototype, yes they are very common in many areas. I model about a 5-square-mile area in Dallas and there are probably between 100 and 200 of them in that area for any given week. There are three unloading spots that can handle maybe 15-20 cars each plus a nice stockpile in yards or other storage tracks. I model two of those facilities, one that handles 3 cars and the other handles 4. With nowhere near the storage/yard capacity I'll probably only end up with 10-12 total, broken out something like: 3-4 ADM 2-3 Cargill 2 Tate & Lyle (likely a custom job) 2 MCP 2 Misc (likely Cerestar, ) Overall, a very exciting release for me so don't get me wrong. It influenced my layout significantly knowing they were on the way.

Guys a comment on the release schedule, I recommended this release schedule to AZL. Historically, we tried mixed road names during a release, so a release may go UP, CSX, BN, CP, DRGW, MP then back to UP. I have suggested we try something different with this release, and offer the like 'brand' name cars in a series. So with ADM, we have released three so far, and have one more to go. What I like about the corn syrup cars is that the logos and printing can vary drastically from car to car, for the same 'brand'. I also have gotten good feedback from customers who like having the option to get the series in a matter of months, versus a year or more which typically happens with our runs. The orders we have received from our dealers echo this as I am seeing orders for a mix of the three ADM releases too date. After ADM, we will have Cargil and expect the same consecutive month release schedule.
What doesn't work is releasing all cars and road names at one time. InterMountain did this with the cylindrical releases and it was a failure. Having a steady release schedule that filters out the releases works very well. Of course, if you are waiting for a particular road or version, it can be painful. But just be patient. As for the early adopters, we see this all of the time. There is always a rush to get the first release. But know, we will have more coming.
Mark, I would expect you see these cars in the corn producing states as well as near areas where the corn is processed. I have seen these cars here in Ohio. I have also see very regularly long trains of these cars in Pittsburgh PA. If you research the cars online, note where the photos are taken. I did do a quick search on Railcarphotos.com and found photos of these cars from all over the US, include in your next of the woods in OR, and WA.
