I just noted the vents of the upper body of the GN F3 are different from all others’ (i.e., lower). In the real thing, what did it mean? What was their purpose?

Yes that is correct. The original GN F3s had the tall fans as was common. Our release portrays a later update of the F3s where they got the same flat fans as the F7s. The paintscheme is also not the original one, but a simplified scheme adopted in 1962 by Great Northern. Usually we stick to the delivery paint scheme, but this time (or back in 2015) we chose a mid life paintscheme with updated fans as well.

Thank you, Hans. I guess then that this loco would be the perfect choice, as motive power, to pull the big sky blue GN two-bay hoppers :-)
