Yesterday we made an excursion to the part of the Chesapeake Bay which is facing the open sea..... We took the "Eilun" from Deal Island`s harbor to the famous sand banks which are part of the natural protection area and we were lucky !!! Some sea lions had arrived and were now sleeping or hanging around on the sand........

Eilun is back to pier and is off-loading their passengers..... ....once they are gone, everything drops quiet except for the crying of the always hungry sea gulls.... There is a small window of opportunity in early summer to see dune flowers blossom. We took the opportunity and tried to find some all over Deal Island........ (a lot of pure white ones, usually very rare!) Come and join us! Best, Sven

Calling on Gerd`s advise to weather all rolling stock, Dirk has started for the first time to weather American rolling stock. A little bit more, Dirk said, and they would fall apart ............. Let us know what you think, please! Best, Sven

These days, Dirk did a little experiment, and brought the two big layouts together. An interesting view: Take your time and zoom in (2x possible) Best, Sven

wow, I missed some pages, but every time I take a look at your pictures, I never know whether they're real or Z! Absolutely fantastic! I've never seen such precise details in a layout so far.

Thank you Charlie, then you will for sure take a look at this pictures: It never rains in California, but this is as close as it can get: (Dirk changed the background using modern e-technology to demonstrate the influence of colors on our sensoric perception of heat. While in the trainini publication ( www.trainini.de/download/Trainini_2015-11.pdf ) the warm orange-red colors are dominating, in these pictures here, you nearly smell and feel the rain and the heat is gone) Which color set-up do you prefer? Which background? Best, Sven

The more I watch this layout and the more I find awesome, irrespective of the scale. Did you submit it to "mainstream" modelrailroad magazines such as ModelRailroader?

They all look good! Your background/backdrops are pictures or some kind of photoshop effect? Meaning do you take pictures of your layout outside then enhance it on computer or is it à photo stuck to the layout? Other question....maybe I already asked.. Where do you find the cars? Can't find Nice ones from the fifties!

Meaning do you take pictures of your layout outside then enhance it on computer or is it à photo stuck to the layout? Sorry, Charlie, may be I was not precise enough. For the first exhibition we used a background "California Sunset". Theses pictures here are the original ones that have been published: After the publication, many approached us and wanted to know how the scenery would look like if we would have used a less colorful background. Therefore, we changed the background using photoshop. The question for you is, what do you like better "Sunset" or "Rainy Day"? Because depending on your answer, we would eventually change the background on the layout to the background you see on the "Rainy Day" pictures for the public activities. So, what is your vote for our next exhibition/publication - "Sunset" or "Rainy Day" ? Best, Sven

Dom We are in talks with the ModelRailroader and we will see if they like it. It may not be "mainstream" enough........ In Europe, Trainini is the most renown one on the web with about 30.000 downloads per issue. Trainini has published "Niles Junction" in this months` issue. www.trainini.de/Best, Sven

Hi Sven, Ok I get it, I prefer the rainy day background, the colors do feel more natural and less flashy, and it enhance considerably the reality of the water. For close photo shooting, without seeing the background, both look nice, like for the cars just above, the atmosphere is nice as well.
And thanks for the link!
