Ditto on the pocketbook. Excited about getting a Santa Fe Warbonnet A-B-B-A set. Even if there few devils in the details. In this case the road numbers selected fall within the 16LC-21LC unit range, which retained their long warbonnet paint to the end. Also the B-units are missing the Chief logo from their sides. Which is a bit of bummer when just a couple minutes of research netted this site: Santa Fe Historical & Modeling Society F-3 UnitsBut in the grand scheme they have some very nice details, to include the modification that eliminated the center port holes, with the entire area between the two portholes being covered with "chicken wire" screening. ~Paul E.

Once they are draw-barred, they'll have to pull the märklin 5 car passenger set. Good thing I have 2 sets !

Will see if we can make a decal for the B units available. We kept changing the A unit design back and forth based on photos and at last used a photo of the ATSF F3 26. Should have changed the raodnumber, then it would have been perfect. Sincerely, Hans (AZL)

Hans, the possibility of a decal for the B units would be awesome.
Oh and a fyi, ATSF 26 would have required you to change to the low profile roof fans, as units 22LABC through 29LABC were delivered with those and not the taller ones see on 16LABC through 21LABC. So I think you did fine with road number based on the options that you selected to use.
Now I just have to wait patiently for the postman (or woman) to deliver my order. It's going to be great have nearly silent Warbonnets coasting around the tracks.

I model the East Coast so this is naught for me, but I'm very happy all the same to see this loco - it's models of railroad icons like this one that help bring new folks to Z scale, and having a Santa Fe F type with both A and B units in AZL quality is great news for Z.

Our shiny red-and-silver Santa Fe F3 diesels pulled Harry Truman's campaign train on part of its journey in June 1948. (HST/NARA) Does somebody has details about this train consist? Thank you! Best, Sven

Would be helpful when one likes to prototypically build Harry Truman's campaign train consist. Best, Sven

Hi, I spoke to quickly about ATSF road number 26. That would be all wrong since the locomotive had the lower roof fans. One note on the F3s. They came in all kind of appearances. We will only be able to Phase II which has chicken wire between the portholes and phase IV which has the horizontal grilles. This version does also double as an early F7. In other words, not all F3s we release will be accurate. Think this is a common dilemma for all model railroad manufacturers. Sincerely, Hans (AZL)

Hans, To drag out a Silicon Valley quote from the 80s: "close enough for government work." As always isn't this a tradeoff: accuracy and detail versus cost?

It sure is. We could have had at least six different F unit bodies, but at what cost to the end user? This is still tiny (but growing) Z scale. Sincerely, Hans (AZL)
