Well it is only 15 days until Western Canada's largest model train show gets underway and excitement is running high. I will be there with two of my modules and probably the only z scaler in the region. At least I was last year. It is not too late if anyone on the forum would like to attend. This year the show is being held at the Genesis Center in North East Calgary. It has over 60000 sq. feet of space (over twice what we had at the Soccer Center), and we will be using every square inch of that space. This promises to be the biggest show ever put on by the CMRS with displays and vendors coming from all over Western Canada, and the U.S. If anyone is interested in coming up, we are not that far from the Calgary Airport by taxi. Unfortunately the only place that the organizers were able to get good deals for participants in as far as accommodations are concerned was at the Glenmore Inn at the other end of town. This was the place of choice because at the time it was only 5 blocks from the show venue. None of the hotels around the airport, or at this end of town, would reserve large blocks of rooms for those taking part in the show and for out of town guests and a reduced rate. This was the only fly in the ointment so to speak. If anyone is interested, type in Supertrain 2015 in any search engine and follow the links. There is a list of vendors and clubs, as well as individuals taking part in this years show. Anyone here in a club, or have a transportable layout, and would like to take part in next year's show, simply click on the link on the left side and fill in the application form. Here is the link for the Glenmore Inn to book a room at a reduced rate. The deadline has already passed, (My fault, for not putting this up earlier) but I'm sure if you tell them you are attending the show, they may be able to accommodate you. www.glenmoreinn.com If not, they you'll have to take your chances with other hotels/motels in Calgary in the North East. My location this year will be LO7 in the Feature Gym and I hope to see some of you there. Cheers

Unfortunately, I am not able to attend the show. Have a great show and post some pictures of your modules if you can.
Thank you for taking the time to share your passion and spreading the word for Z scale.

7 days and counting. I wish it were this weekend I'm so excited to be part of the show again. Next year I'll be bringing my entire layout to the show. Will need lot's of space for that. Being the only z scaler in this area does have it's advantages. One tends to attract a lot of attention from participants and spectators alike. It bothers me though when potential modellers say that z scale it too small. I think it's just their minds that are too small to realize the possibilities. Oh well, their loss.

I always remind people who claim that Z scale is too small that it's 2/3 the size of N scale and not 1/2 like in most scales. We still get spectators who say they've never seen Z scale before and ask how new it is. I think it surprises them when I tell them it's been around since 1972. I suspect that you'll hear from other people that they have some Z but didn't realize that you could do a real layout with it.
Have a great time at the show.

Thanks much. Yes I've had that experience to. I think next year, when I bring my whole layout with me, it will blow people away to see what can actually be done with something as small as z scale. A layout 35 x 14 feet will definitely catch some people's attention. Would be nice though to win best in show. Oh well, one can dream.

Well it's getting down to the wire and I'm really getting excited. Not just because I'm going to be in the show for the 4th year in a row, but because of the new venue. I'm going to take lots of pics of the show and of my layout, but posting them here will be a challenge as I have tried before and be unable to. Perhaps, when I'm ready, I can call upon someone here to assist me in this procedure. I'd like everyone here to be able to see what us Canucks are capable of. If anyone is interested in scoping out the Genesis Center here, just put Genesis Center Calgary in any search engine and when the site comes up, you can go to the location map, click on the dot and go to either street view or satellite view. Satellite gives a much better idea of the size of this place. Only 3 more sleeps to go.

As Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck would say:
Overture, cut the lights, This is it, the night of night, No more rehearsing and Nursing a part, We know every part by heart. Overture, cut the lights, This is it, we'll hit the heights, And oh what heights we'll hit, On with the show, This is it.
Supertrain 2015 starts tomorrow. I'm set up and ready to go and when I left the center tonight at 7, they were still coming in to set up. It's going to be a gigantic show and I'm looking forward to it.
On with the show.
