In honor of the ACL E8s being released this month, we have this contemporary photo of a restored ACL E7 running with a Southern E8. Rob Hi Rob, Not to pick-nits but in the interest of accuracy. ACL 501 is actually an E3A one of two units built by EMC (Electro Motive Corporation which later became EMD of GM) in 1939 for service on the ACL Champion. The unit was later rebuilt to E6 mechanical specifications for fleet compatability and increased reliability. It is the only surviving example of the EMC E3A carbody. An interesting side note is that its sister EMC E3A ACL 500 was heavily damaged in a collision/derailment in 1953. It was shipped back to EMD and rebuilt as an E8A ACL 500 retaining its original builders number and road number but on an E8A carbody. Regards, Cliff
