Hi AZL. Any chance of releasing the Amtrak rainbow train? May 1st 1971 was Amtrak's inaugural run and throughout the country they used Amtrak coaches mixed with the fallen flag passenger cars. Kato released it in N Scale with an 8 car set of Amtrak and Penn Central passenger cars, along side the E8 locomotive 4316. I have it in N Scale. It would be great to see that in Z Scale.
Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim, and welcome to the forum. Like you, I enjoy mixed rakes of coaches, and the early “rainbow” era of Amtrak is ideal for indulging this idea. Have a look at some of the early name trains on flickr, which I use as evidence/stimulation to re-create interesting mixtures. The Empire Builder is a good source of mixed rakes, also The Floridian. It is not difficult to create realistic trains from copying the consists in these photographs by mixing the great variety of lightweight coaching stock from AZL, but also adding microtrains Amtrak cars - look out for them secondhand - Z track resale is a good source to keep an eye on. I have also used Maerklin Amtrak coaches, but these need to be mixed in to the rakes by using an mtl coach with a knuckle coupler one end and a Maerklin one the other. One big regret is that the AZL lightweight Amtrak diner is not made in the early livery, so diners from the old roads must be used. Good luck and enjoy. Vernon ( Old Grog)
