The National Train Show in Long Beach, CA is coming up in August. We have made the decision not to participate in this years NTS. The show has been drastically downsized and moved to a ballroom, versus a convention hall. There will be no vendor displays, just tables. The number of public attendees have been limited with time slots assigned. The Z scale clubs that would be at this show running trains are not hearing back from the NTS about space. All and all, it doesn't feel like the type of show we are accustomed to. We are very disappointed since we have so many Z scalers in California that we would love to be able to meet and support.
In 2025, the show will be in Novi, MI. It will be held the weekend of July 18th. This will be back to a convention hall format. We have already committed to being at the show and have completed the necessary paperwork with the NTS. We hope to see you there!

So, no Queen Mary editions from AZL, like LGB used to produce when they did the show there? Was looking forward to a Queen Mary series Santa Fe U25 uboat, or a White Pass ALCO DL535E Queen Mary Edition. oops new 4 axle truck road engines, verboten here.

. oops new 4 axle truck road engines, verboten here. Not at all! Is there something you would like to see us make? Yes, the The GE Dash 8-40B (or B40-8) is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation between 1988 and 1989. It is part of the GE Dash 8 Series of freight locomotives. A total of 151 examples of this locomotive were built for North American railroads. The GE Dash 8-40BW (B40-8W) is a variant fitted with a full-width cab. Another variant is the GE Dash 8-40BP, more commonly known as the Genesis series. It would seem to be a no-brainer since AZL already produces the Genesis series of passenger locs, which is a direct variant. Since the AZL chassis is extant, all it needs is the freight model shell.

I would absolutely love to see the GE 8-40B, 8-40BW and 8-32BHW (Amtrak version). Just picturing 4 in Santa Fe SuperFleet colors pulling a long string of spine cars and trailers!! 🤩

Has AZL ever done a loco that neither UP nor SP owned?

Has AZL ever done a loco that neither UP nor SP owned? F59PHI, for one. I know you were trying to be coy, just volleying back your way. It was sort of a cheap shot....UP and SP probably owned most of Alco, GE, EMD, et al's catalogs. Hard to make a loco that doesn't count one or the other as owners. (and especially a commercially viable one at that!) I am a bit surprised that at least one of the AZL principals wouldn't find an excuse to visit Southern California...I don't care if they are having the convention in a livestock barn....it's Cajon and Tehachapi, man!!!! I mean, Hawaii's great and all but the railfanning is abysmal!

Has AZL ever done a loco that neither UP nor SP owned? That's a good question. First: "Must have been operated by UP or SP" is not a prerequisite when we chose a locomotive to model. Second: It is hard to find a widely used locomotive that the SP or UP did not operate. By widely use, lets say 300 units used by at least 4 class 1 railroads. I'm sure someone can find an example! Let the games begin -Rob(A)

By widely use, lets say 300 units used by at least 4 class 1 railroads. Huh, did we just learn a trade secret? Guess we won't be able to sell any of our AZL stock for some time. I came up with a second example, the P42DC. So if we qualify the question with "Has AZL ever done a non-passenger loco that neither UP nor SP owned?", then the answer is probably no. (and again, that probably isn't a bad thing)
