Hi friends,
I would like to announce the development of the digital decoder for AZL SD40-2 diesel locomotive. SD40-2 is a very anticipated addition to the range of Z scale fleet; many road names have been already announced and I believe even more to come in the future. So I think my development will be perfectly in time.
At the moment, the circuit board is already developed; I have sent it to the factory for production. I hope to get the first samples this month. Like my previous developments, new digital decoder is based on proven Doehler & Haass technology. Here are some highlights:
- Built-in highly efficient energy storage module with overvoltage and thermal protection
- Extended light features
- Analog mode support
- Multiprotocol support (DCC, SelecTRIX 1 and 2, MM)
- 32 kHz PWM motor control with load compensation function
- Wide programming capabilities
- Compatibility with all versions of SD40-2 locomotive (all variants of noses, tunnel motor etc.)
Here is a 3D visualization of the new digital decoder:
I will reveal more details regarding each of listed features and functions a bit later - once I get the circuit boards, assemble the first copy of the decoder and perform all necessary tests. I expect to make the new decoder available for sale in the USA somewhere in February-March 2024 (under ideal conditions - if everything goes as planned). I will post any updates of development and manufacturing process here.
I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to AZL Team for providing me with all the necessary technical information about the new SD40-2 locomotive.
PS. The circuit boards for this decoder as well as many other necessary parts are still produced in Ukraine. Please I kindly ask everyone to pray for my native country - those shameless and cruel vermin from Russia - from 'Mordor' still did not give up with an idea to kill all Ukrainians and to turn all our country into the totally desolated area where no one could live. Every single day and night hundreds of missiles and drones fall down not on any military facilities - but on houses where civilians with their families and children live. I am not exaggerating at all - without such an important and vital help of the United States and other countries all this would have already happened without any doubts.
Best regards,
Alex
