1941 SP Coast Daylight and 1954 SP Coast Daylight! Our biggest project so far will include the GS-4 Northern and 12 different passenger cars.
Lima SP GS-4 (General Service or Golden State) The 4-8-4 SP GS-4 is in my opinion the most beautiful US steam locomotive and had an amazing career from 1941 through the late fifties. And the 4449 is still operational in Portland.
We did this in brass way back, together with the GS-3. No GS-3 this time around, simply since the GS-4 replaced the GS-3 in 1941. We will also offer the War Baby version without the side skirts. This versatile locomotive handled freight as well as passenger consists.
So, basically five AZL versions: 1941 GS-4 Daylight, 1940s War Baby, 1940s Black and Daylight combination, 1954 GS-4 Daylight and Freedom Train
As the GS-4 were withdrawn from Coast service in 1954-55, the diesels took over. And the beauty is that we already made those. Being SP PA1s, PA2, E7s or E9s, they are all ready for the Coast Daylight. And B units!
The Passenger Consist 1941 and 1954 consist is new to Z scale. The two consists are basically made up of the same cars.
The 1941 consist consisted of corrugated cars made in 1939 and 1941. Our set includes 13 cars: Baggage-Chair, 2 x Articulated Chairs, the triple Articulated Diner-Kitchen-Coffee, two different Chairs, Tavern, Parlor and Observation. They are all painted in Daylight colors with center skirts and lettered «Southern Pacific Lines».
The 1954 consist includes the above, but without the center skirts that were all removed late 40s early 50s. We have included an add on set for the 1954 consist that includes a smooth side Chair and 3 extra Articulated Chairs. Again all in Daylight colors, but lettered «Southern Pacific».
Expected 2025

I almost want to buy one of each. This is great! At least a couple of daylights and a deskirted freight engine.

Not only is this good news in and of itself, but the news of more AZL steam is very exciting!

The original brass SP Daylights are one of the reasons I started with Z scale. Small feature wish; no traction tires or a replacement wheel without traction tires.

I'm all ready to buy mine, so looking forward to this!!! Yeah, I'm an avid East Coaster but this train (along with a lot of other non-east coast trains too!) gets the blood pumping! This train, and the Blue Comet, have always been dream trains but ever since Bobby Bacala's unfortunate... accident, no Blue Comet for me

The non-skirted version will be nice for kitbashing into other road's locos.

I think once I get one of these new Daylights, it'd be fun for me to revisit this diorama and build a successor to it! A pair of pics of the way the lower track looked before I added the snow. I remember liking this sort of spooky look and being torn on adding the snow at all! John Attachments:

This the the greatest announcement!! 😁 I’ll definitely be picking up at least one of each set if not more. Temping to pull out my old plans to make a Coast Line display layout…
Any chance we can get Western Pacific 4-8-4 with and without the elephant ears?
