Last pic is the best! It's ok to run the Milw E-units as well, I've seen pics of them in the lead out West, so it's prototypical to have them on the COLA, maybe late 50's on. ...and the Milwaukee Road 32C is still available from AZL Direct, or even the Milw E7's #18/19 at the transition phase mid-50's when they were still unpainted for the UP, if you can't wait to run this train!

How about slightly earlier, when the UP trains were handed over to the C&NW from Omaha to Chicago ? You could then use an E8/E7 combo back to back, which is how the Northwestern ran them, since they had no B units. The green and yellow livery looks very smart, and the models come with a spare truck for double-heading. What’s not to like ?

Thank you for your suggestions and keen insights, Cwrr Milwaukee Road and Oldgrog. While AZL Direct is always a good resource, I am inclined to believe that there is going to be an AZL fiesta of Armour Yellow with multiple second runs for multiple E9s. Currently the pendulum may be tipping to west. It seems very likely, though, that AZL principals recognize the modelers of the heartland. As such, we may very well see more Armour Yellow Milwaukee Road 30-series ABA units for bringing the Union Pacific City of Los Angeles to the Chicago connection. Or is it 30-series ABC units?

72400-1 UP City of Los Angeles 13 car set - Baggage 5633 - Baggage Dormitory 6002 - Coach 5406 - Coach 5435 - Coach 5447 - 5DB Lounge Cheyenne - Club-Lounge 6207 - Dome Diner 8000 - Dome 7003 - 10-6 Sleeper Pacific Castle - 10-6 Sleeper Pacific Northwest - 10-6 Sleeper PRR Stoney Rapids - 11 DB Sleeper Placid Lake - 6-6-4 Sleeper National Embassy - 4-4-2 Sleeper Imperial Bird - Dome Lounge Observation 9004 In 1955, the CNW was replaced with the Milwaukee Road for the Omaha to Chicago leg, and the dome cars entered service. AZL has produced the City of Los Angeles as it appeared during its zenith in 1956. A Pennsylvania 10-6 “Rapids” series car was repainted into Armour Yellow, but with PRR lettering, for through service to New York. The New York Central also ra a through car on alternating days, but it retained NYC livery. Interesting reading how our 1:160 friends approached this fascinating topic: www.trainweb.org/fredatsf/UP-COLA.htmI learned for example that it was prototypical for the COLA to have a steam engine assisting E9s .....!!!! www.pinterest.ch/pin/186195765820421992/Enjoy! In today's mail: IMG_0399.jp2 (294.04 KB) IMG_0402.jp2 (375.29 KB) Really nice! I was not expecting the ribbed sides on some cars (which is appropriate). Can't wait to get them running.
