This is the largest passenger set released too date from AZL! The weekly City of Los Angeles launched in May of 1936 with the Union Pacific’s revolutionary diesel streamliner M-10002. This was a joint service of the UP from LA to Omaha, and continuing with the CNW to Chicago. Locomotive service began the following year and service frequency increased to daily by 1947. In 1955, the CNW was replaced with the Milwaukee Road for the Omaha to Chicago leg, and the dome cars entered service. AZL has produced the City of Los Angeles as it appeared during its zenith in 1956. A Pennsylvania 10-6 “Rapids” series car was repainted into Armour Yellow, but with PRR lettering, for through service to New York. The New York Central also ra a through car on alternating days, but it retained NYC livery. Or AZL City of Los Angeles is a 13 cars set including baggage, baggage dormitory, two coaches, five bedroom / lounge, dome diner, dome coach, two 10-6 sleepers, 11 bedroom sleeper, 6-6-4 sleeper, 4-4-2 sleeper, and dome observation cars. Cavities in the package insert are provided for AZL E8/9 A and B locomotives (sold separately). Orders now can be placed on AZL Direct: azldirect.comRob Kluz Ztrack Distribution

Sleepers—I find fascinating five in kind. I mean that sincerely.
1956—Its zenith. Wonderful consideration!
Through car as part of a set. Well-thought!
“… The largest passenger set released to date from AZL!”
Beautiful job.
Sold.

Looks like the UP E8/9 is sold out. Will there be another run released to go with these cars?

A few updates on the City of Los Angeles project:
1) As mentioned above, a new run of Uniion Pacific E unit locomotives is expected to be delivered in 30 days. We had hoped to time them so they would come together, but unforeseen delays occurred. 2) We built the City of Los Angeles as it ran in the Summer of 1956 - that means the trucks were still Grey. Our research indicates that the Silver painted trucks started to appear in June of 1958. We do understand that some of our wonderful clients would prefer silver trucks, so we have just ordered replacement silver truck sets from the factory. The early price estimate is $29 for the Set of 26 trucks - $9 for the expansion pack. They will come complete with wheel sets, pins and silver couplers. 3) Speaking of trucks, the City of Los Angeles introduces a new style of lightweight passenger truck - the sets include both styles on various cars - but the point is there is new tooling, even on the trucks.
Thanks for your support -Rob(A) AZL

While I do not model UP, this set is outstanding for those that do. I looks awesome! And E8/9s to go with it. Enjoy to the UP folks!!

Nice work...I predict this one will be another hit in the "name train" department.
Like others, this one isn't for me...but I'll admire it from the cheap seats.

^^^^^. That’s my problem. I don’t model an era and buy what I like. I had this on pause cause as I’m feeling guilty on the size of my collection. That said, I showed this one to my wife and she liked it. So….. I got this one for her. ;-)
