AZL is releasing the last of the second run of the Big Boys. These are coal fired Big Boys with all new road numbers. They come in a set with a yellow wood side class CA-1 caboose. The caboose is all brass and highly detailed. This is a limited edition release. Many road numbers are very low in quantity.

Just a quick question...
Any chance that the 89' flats with Bulldozer load might be released on the oxide-red TTX flats instead of the yellow TTX flats and, if so, when?

I just received my UP Big Boy and yellow caboose today and wow! What a beast! (in a good way). I decided to get #4022 and I am so far very happy with it. It ran ok on my test track that has 245r curves which are a bit tight for such a big machine but that is good that it negotiated these curves.
I have one question and I knew this when purchasing it, Do all of the Big Boys only have a working light in reverse on the tender? And is there a way to put a light in front?

Hi Mark,
At the time we made the Big Boys, our manufacturer did not want to make a working headlight due to space limitations. That was not an issue with the rear of the tender, so we put a light in. It is possible to put in an operating headlight, but it requires some delicate skills. We understand our manufacturers decision not to put a working headlight on the Big Boy and we hope that our skilled operators will find a good way to do this. I have seen a Challenger with a working headlight so it can be done. If someone else have some ideas, please post it to this blog. Sincerely, Hans (AZL)

Hello Hans,
After looking closely at the front truck where the prototype light is located, I figured it would be really difficult to put a light there and maintain the awesome detail and scale of this incredibly well built model!
I had seen a YouTube video of someone showing the DCC sound of a Big Boy and it looked like it had a working front light so I was curious if it was from the first run or a custom job.

Hi Mark,

There is an interesting link to a blog, someone who installed DCC, sound and light on a challenger. The big boy is relatively similar looking at the front and the space available for a DEL light.:
