About to start custom painting an AZL GP-9 in the old Southern green scheme. Could someone tell me if the handrails and walkways will separate from the body shell, like the Atlas N scale GP's?

The walkways do separate from the shell if you elect to attempt this. Soak the entire Walkway in 91% isopropyl Alcohol for a few hours - check periodically. Front and rear stanchions will come out with a bit of coaxing (be very careful) and a thorough soaking in alcohol - take your time. You will, also, notice the paint being removed - I use a pointed, wooden toothpick and Q-tip to help in the removal.
I have been able to get the handrails off when needed but it requires you to soak the walkways longer - in order to oxidize the glue. In some situations, I've had a side fall off on its own - very rare. Mostly use #11 X-Acto and start following the "glue joint" on the undercarriage side(not noticeable if you slip). Just a light score on the joint and back in Alcohol bath. It will take a several attempts but they will eventually come off - just don't force it. I'm not saying it will work for you but it did for me, again, "take your time."

I braved it and the disassembly was pretty easy. The painting project was a success, but I couldn't get my photo files small enough to share. Happy results are so cool.

Bummer, I wanted to see it!
I too, have had problems in the past loading pics, ended up just not doing it.
Maybe someone on here has a secret they can tell us.

Use "Add Attachment" button on the top right vs the "Insert Image" icon on the icon bar. If you do "Add Attachment", it permits files up to 1MB which should be easy to attain with an image file. There are a million ways to resize an image to meet a certain size threshold.
"Insert Image" only lets you link to another existing image.

Thanks dazed, maybe that's why-my images are pretty large. ...and being computer illiterate doesn't help me!

My computer shows the picture file size at a little over 15,000 bytes... seems like that's plenty small enough to download. I've cropped the pic as small as I can. What's the magic needed to get a jpg photo on here?
