Hello, I have sold a couple of runner packs, that were in box for a longer time. 3 cars show severe damage, one even fall apart. did that happen to someone before? Greetings Mattias Attachments:

This looks like poor zinc casting. Similar to the GP38 problem. These are 53' Thrall Well Cars? It looks like AZL-90601-8 DTTX Set #8 Released October 2012

Yes it looks like a modern manifestation of "Zinc Pest", the same thing that happened to the early AZL GP38-2. It's usually the result of when an unscrupulous type tries to salvage die cast metal he contaminated, like spilled around a dirty oily machine while filling the hopper then swept back up and thrown in the hopper, and then he cast his shift's parts like nothing ever happened. Nobody will be the wiser for several years.

A similar result to Zinc pest can happen if a car is exposed to extreme heat. I had this happen to some of my N models that I had stored in an attic. The temp was fine under normal circumstances, but the combination of a tripped breaker for the attic fans and an unusual record high temp for a long stretch spelled doom for many of my metal stack cars.
