Hi All, I am fairly new to z scale, having modeled trains in just about every other scale out there. Anyway, I have a small dual loop layout of 195mm and 220mm curves. I am into RDC's and have 2 New Haven ones. When trying to run both coupled together, I am riddled with derailments of one truck or another on either diameter loop. If I run them uncoupled they run ok until one catches up to the other. They seem to have close to same speed but not exactly.
I wanted to run them in pairs, and wanted to get a couple more, but if this issue cant be resolved, that's kind of a waste of money. They run well other than the derailment part. Just for grins, I tried putting a couple freight cars coupled to them, and they seem to have derailment issues as well.
Track by the way is Rokuhan, tacked down, layout base is 2" blueboard.
Thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated! Thank You

RDC's prior to the May 2017 SP release have this issue. I'm not sure if the new coupler is available/adaptable to the old RDC's or not. Here is the info from Rob A. about the new coupler: Hopefully someone can chime in on a fix and/or if the new coupler works for the old RDC's. EDIT: You might want to contact AZL support about this. www.americanzline.com/contact-azl

Hi Greg, First, I’m sorry your having this problem. Good news is that you are not crazy. The situation you described is very accurate for our first production run of RDC (including the New Haven units.) We changed the coupler design for the second production run and it works much better - not that it makes your situation any better. The vast majority of folks run them as single units, so that’s a temporary solution, but we always want to make things “right” for our clients, so that’s clearly not enough. Or distributor - Rob Kluz at Ztrack - may have a solution as he deals with 99% of our client issues. He’s on summer break this week, but hopefully he will chime in when he sees this message. I’ll look into having a solid coupler made that would allow you to hand couple the two units together if that sounds interesting to you. It would also work to couple any other cars to the RDC. That might take me a while (think September) but I could add it to my “to do” list - let me know your interest. Thanks -Rob(A) AZL

Hi Rob, and Thanks for the reply. Yes any "fix" for the problem would be great. I really would like to run them in pairs, at least these two NH I have. Guess I will add a later production run to the second two I buy to avoid this issue.
I really like them though, they are great runners, and look great. I am in the process of weathering them to look well used. Added a bit of grime with some weathering chalks.
Thanks All for the replies. Greg

Make sure you take the windows out, before you spray anything or, they’ll ‘fog up’
