Despite of the fact that I am modelling 1965 (before Amtrak ! ), I noticed this scene at the beginning of Tim Burton's "Dark Shadows" ... If one can discard the "bug" of showing alternately 4 and 5 cars (!), I wondered if there were really 2 engines, one in front and one at the rear ("reversible" train ? ) ; and which type ? Thanks for any answer ...

Thanks for any answer ... It’s a Tim Burton movie, expect fantasy. Actually I’m noticing a number of trains that run a decommissioned locomotive as a control cab. But that a 21st century thing. Amtrak did convert some F40PH locomotives to control/ baggage cars (cabbages) but that was late 70s & early 80s. In the early scenes from overhead it looks like that’s the case, but pulling into the station it looks like a P42. The poster at 1:01 with the pointless arrow sets the era about right but: That was the rainbow era when much of Amtrak was still running in the original roads’ paint until 1974. Doesn’t that lead locomotive look a lot like a P42 in modern paint. Aren’t those coaches just a little too modern. Oh well what does Burton know about trains. $

I confess that I switched my TV off when they opened the coffin ; there is only one movie by Tim B. that I liked, "Alice in Wonderland" ...
Some other train related "bugs" that I noticed are for example : "Five Days One Summer" (with Sir Sean Connery), whose story should be around 1930 and where a Swiss train is pulled by a modern Ae6/6 - Re4/4 like engine ... And the best (or worst) one : "Cassandra Crossing", where a (model) Re4/4 runs without catenary !
The best movie with a train remains in my eyes "Silver Streak" (despite of the "fictious" AmRoad company ! )

In the early scenes from overhead it looks like that’s the case, but pulling into the station it looks like a P42. The NPCU's (aka "Cabbages") were a late 90's/early 2000's thing, done as the P42's replaced the donor F40PH's as primary power for most Amtrak trains. It was common to see them as double-ended configurations with a Cabbage on one end and a P42 on the other. EDIT: One of my favorite trains, Amtrak's "Heartland Flyer" that runs between Fort Worth, TX and Oklahoma City, OK. Taken 6/19/2005 aka Father's Day (my first) in North Fort Worth, TX from our waiting Fort Worth & Western RR "Tarantula" Excursion Train. Consist: Amtrak P42DC 140 Amtrak Hi-Level Transition Coach 39952 Amtrak Superliner Coach 35006 Amtrak Hi-Level Transition Coach 39940 Amtrak NPCU 90229 I believe with the release of the El Cap sets, this train is entirely able to be modeled in Z-Scale except for the NPCU. And you could get close by modifying a variety of "stand-in" F40PH's available, or a previously release brass model is also out there I think.

"Continental Divide" with John Belushi is a cool movie too, with some late 70's Amtrak action.

In present days, the Acela operates this way – with engines at both ends. Exactly like other high speed trains, the Shinkansen, the HST, TGV and ICE ... But the train shown by T. Burton looked rather like a commuter train !

As I’ve said before, I’m not particularly knowledgeable of east coast railroads but the movie train looks a lot like: It’s got a cabbage, the coaches look right for the station scene. The Downeaster runs in the right part of the country. Interestingly, the P42 is pulling the train through the introduction, but is pushing into the station.

BTW: My favorite train movie is Back to the Future III and favorite train TV is Petticoat Junction. Both have Sierra #3, a locomotive I’ve known since childhood and ridden in and behind. Watched the filming of the train near hwy 108 for Petticoat Junction and Wild, Wild West pilot.

I remember seeing " Under Siege 2" with Steven Segull.. two dressed up old Geeps pulling a string of spiffed up probably ex Metra or SP Double Deck cars over the Rockies .. would have been a rather slow ride 🤣🤣🤣 But I remember the Scene in the Sean Connery Movie with the Re 4/4 without catenary.. must have been a stealth early day hybrid🤣🤣🤣. But coming back to Amtrak... I liked the FP40's pulling their strings of Amfleet cars gliding along the Coast between San Diego and Carlsbad... back in 1997... I never liked the Boxy P42 or the new Siemens Clones.. BR Boris Boris

Sean Connery was not in "Cassandra Crossing", the main role of the "Villain" was Burt Lancaster.

Would be nice if AZL would do that train in Z!

It was filmed on Canadian Pacific ... and the Director was the same as for "Love Story" (Arthur Hiller)

So, no need for a cab control car ...
