Majel Barrett was born this day in 1932. Why should you care? Well aside from her work in sci-fi and in particular Star Trek, she also did voice work, including announcements for trackside detector boxes. The boxes were used on a number of eastern roads, rumored to have been used on SP and still used on the UP.

I have been looking for a sound clip one of my buddies had from the Cuesta Grade - it had "STOP YOUR TRAIN" at the end. The video above I found on YouTube - same voice from the clips my friend had.
I never knew whose voice it was. Thanks for the added knowledge. 😎👍

"Happy" ? She died 14 years ago ... It's an American thing. We just celebrated George Washington's Birthday and he's been dead two centuries.

Wikipedia reports the relationship but without citations. defectdetector.net/railroad/spReports this as urban myth and and reports SF voice artist Katherine Reynolds did the voice work, although being an SF boy I don't recognize the name. Then there is: www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,1829175 So take your choice. I'll look into the SPTHS to see if they have the definitive reference.
