I asked "Laszlo" for a set of "street repairing" engines, i.e. a tipper truck and a steam roller, both of the sixties. The truck looks OK, but the steam roller is a ... steam operated device. Despite of the fact that I read on WikiPedia that in Great Britain such engines were still built after WWII, I wonder if they were in use in USA in the sixties, or if they had all been replaced with diesel versions ? No problem, in this case I would use the Shapeways model and put the steam version on a concrete pedestal, as a rememberance of the (fictitious) former factory for steam rollers in my town. So, where is the truth ?

I can't recall ever seeing steam powered road equipment. Might be possible for an old east coast town to have one on their roster. My great grandfather got rid of his steam tractors around 1942.
One of the last ones he had was donated to the city as a display as you described.
Something from the era that you might consider is the construction 🚧 barriers used smudge pots, bowling ball size tanks that burned oil to somewhat warn drivers. Don't recall seeing any battery powered lights until the mid-60s.

Thanks Mark ... I will add the construction barriers, but warming tanks for the drivers are not necessary, because the season on my layout is spring.
