Ouch, CP Rail just got shafted! Don't feel too bad for them, CP got a $700 million breakup fee when KCS terminated the deal. If the CN deal is allowed to go through, which is a big if, I wouldn't be surprised if CP tried to take a run at either CSX or NS.

They also tried a "friendly" merge with CSX (talks broke down recently).
I don't think CN will be allowed to own both north/south lines. They may be forced to sell WC/IC if they are allowed to buy KS

KCS was declared an underdog railroad and the government released it from certain antitrust restrictions, which is why it’s a desirable takeover target. However, CN duplicates a fair amount of KCS cities/routes, giving a foreign rail a possible monopoly between some cities. This could be very interesting.
