Did you ever get any data about which of the materials was the better general choice over a longer testing period? Yep! Crickets... Rob neglecting his commitments ...is the reason I quit this forum Please don't use my comments to "start something". Thanks. I'm not suggesting anyone is neglecting anything. I simply asked a question and will patiently await an answer. If it was something urgent I would follow their instructions for contacting support.

I have placed an order for both the black and gray couplers, in the description of the black ones it says 32+... is that the quantity in one unit of purchase? Thanks, Mark

I saw that AZL-direct is now selling the sets of solid couplers ; can they be used on RDC's (I would use the black version), and should I better cut the "whiskers" in this case ? And I think that the small "spring plate", which is very hard to insert again, is no longer necessary ? Or should I better use the coupling bar ? Another question : how were two Budd's coupled together ? Looking from the exhausts, there is a "long" and a "short" end. I don't have the ATSF version, but there it should be obvious : since the company logo is only present on the "long" end front, they should be coupled with the "short" ends. I read that NH ran them pairwise too, so I will do the the same with my NYC, since the length of the platforms is designed for 2 Budd's. Is there a rule how to couple them, or doesn't it mind ? I wanna only replace one coupler on each .... Thanks in advance !

The black couplers are produced with FormLabs Black Resin V4. The gray couplers are produced with FormLabs Gray Pro Resin. The properties for these can be found at FormLabs.
Sorry I can't answer of the RDC. I haven't tested the new couplers.

Is there a way to make medium brown couplers in the future, more realistic in look?
Or does it depend on the materials it's made by?

Is there a way to make medium brown couplers in the future, more realistic in look? Or does it depend on the materials it's made by? 1) We have been thinking of asking the factory to make all couplers in brown in the future - what do you folks think about that idea? 2) for the AZL Labs solid couplers, yes, there is a color resin option, but I have not had time to test its mechanical properties to see if it would hold up over time. For now I'm still printing Black and Grey. Note that these resins do take acrylic paint quite nicely, so that is an option too.

Never seen an all black or grey coupler, (unless it was painted, but that's against FRA rules), but rusty brown ones are on everything!

Will there ever be a new run of black version for "visual" compatibility with existing couplers ?

(dark) BROWN couplers for sure. “Brown” is a bit light, darker keeps it from standing out from the shiny black.

So I will have to swap them at both ends of Budds ; does anybody know more about compatibility (NH and NYC versions) ?

I wanted to order a set of (black) solid couplers and 2 coupling bars at AZL Direct. For items that fit easily into a small cardboard box or perhaps even a padded envelope, estimated shipping fees to France : 50$ ; more than 3 times the price of the order, this hurts ... So finally I gave up.

So finally I gave up. Yes, we have the same problem in the USA: shipping rates of $50 for even the smallest of items from Europe. I frequently encounter small European firms that refuse to do any business with Americans because of customs, payment, shipping, perceived (but untrue) liability issues. The situation is illogical and frustrating.

but why can t you just put the couplers in an envelope, the necessary stamps then in the mail box, as a letter, and voila ?
