Solid couplers in BLACK resin are being shipped to zTrack next week. We will follow with solid couplers in Grey Pro resin after the holidays.
What’s the difference? Well, color for one.
Black: Better dimensional stability over time (will not change its shape as much) Stiffer - so better spring action in the coupler box and can pull more weight before bending apart More brittle - it doesn’t bend so much as it breaks. Bend it back and forth a few times and it will break. Hit it (drop on the floor) and it will break.
Grey Pro: Good dimensional stability over time, but not as good as Black. (This is marginal) Has a little more “give” to it. If you drop the car, the coupler has a lower likelihood of breaking. Spring action is still good, but the whisker springs can lose some of their ability to re-center the coupler in the box over time. This should Not be an issue because these are solid couplers. I’m fact, I’m thinking of making a batch without springs as they really only help a small amount when pushing cars instead of pulling in a solid coupler form.
You can look at FormLabs web site for more technical data on Black vs Grey Pro. There are not direct plastic counterparts.

I am really looking forward to this option! Not only for using in place of the drawbars on the E and F units but also for passenger cars and maybe any freight cars that might look better with tighter spacing.
I hope you plan on producing high volumes and will also offer them in bulk quantities!
Thank you! Mark

Rob,
When you said these will be sent to zTrack do you mean AZL Direct to be sold in the parts category or did you mean the distributor to be provided to the numerous dealers? Also how soon will they be available? I am anxious to try this out...

Are they still valid ? And can the RDC's (both NH and more recent models) be equipped ?

In fact I have following issue : when I run two RDC's together, since one of them is always a little bit slower, when this one runs "rear" it can happen (only with one model and at one end, I think there is a problem with the coupler) that they uncouple and go on running separately ! To avoid this I wanted to replace the coupler(s) with a "solid" one, which cannot uncouple ; or should I simply glue the "flap" in position, which should have the same effect, i.e. make the coupler to be a "solid" version ?

Hi Alberich
I ve had similar problems in HOn3..and was able to solve it by just glueing 1 coupler " closed".. which was the one of the slower engine.

Did you ever get any data about which of the materials was the better general choice over a longer testing period?
