I ran across this story that some of you may find interesting: www.kqed.org/news/11869346/the-story-behind-those-old-train-tunnels-in-the-santa-cruz-mountainsWhile it is really more of Northern California interests, it is a reminder of how pervasive the railroads once were, how towns lived and died with the tracks and how many untold miles of track have been replaced by roads, regional transit and bike trails or just torn out.
