Delievered in 1970. 1,200 cars. Sniped this from www.zscalemonster.com as I could not find the info on AZL's pages. The cars were built by Pacific Car and Foundry in Benton, WA. The R-70-20 designation stands for a reefer with 70 ton capacity. The 20 designates with was the twenty design in the builders reefer series. The cars are a direct derivative of the PFE reefer design. They represent the last major release of this design of cars. In 1969, 1,200 of these cars were delivered, with an additional 1,200 delivered in 1970. Initially the cars were delivered in PFE lettering. Throughout the years, the cars would be sold off and repainted for new owners and roads. The 1980s saw the biggest change as the SP and UP split the operations on the PFE. The SP would retain the PFE trade name and their cars would be lettered for SPFE. The UP would choose to completely repaint their cars in the armor yellow scheme, and later all white after the SP and UP merged in 1996. The second largest operator of these cars was the BNSF. The BNSF would build through their collection through the absorption of roads such as the Burlington Northern and Great Northern. It is important to note that these cars continue to be operated currently. The dependability and reliability are a driving factor for their prolonged use.

WILL there be UP YelloW and SP 'SPFE' versions ? I posted a (low res) pic of the artwork they showed in the initial video announcement: azlforum.com/post/20973The UP yellow and a version of the SP cars are included. EDIT: I believe this is an example of the scheme for this first run of SPFE... cdn3.volusion.com/epxka.ohjab/v/vspfiles/photos/IMR48813-2.jpg?v-cache=1585760686 from an Intermountain HO release. I predicted the PFE cars would go fast, which is good news for a second run since the ubiquitous green BNFE cars are missing from the above list. While I'm not sure I'd predict they'll sellout as fast as the various versions of the PFE cars, I think they will be quite popular along with the ARMN cars and BNSF.

There is also a picture in this month's ztrack magazine (if you subscribe) that shows higher resolution (although from an angle).

"The cars were built by Pacific Car and Foundry in Benton, WA." I really hate to nitpick, but Paccar was located in Renton, Wa "R"enton. The City of Renton is very proud of both it's rich railroad history with at over 6 different railroads rolling thru town over the years and aviation history with Boeing here as well, who still gets they're fuselages by rail.

Interestingly...currently there are modern reefers being churned out at a plant in north Fort Worth....not far from Denton.

Unfortunately I missed the race for an order. I`m very sad . PFE is probabely the most used and most attrctive paintscheme. How could it sell out so quickly? I hope, there will be a re-release.
