November 2020 New Releases Part 1

ALCO RS3 - Milwaukee Rd

The MILW prototype details include: Phase III Body, corner stacked number boards, ALCO AAR trucks, single headlight, two single airhorns, crosswise smokestack and 1400 gallon fuel tank.

These popular locomotives feature a 7.5mm coreless motor, dual flywheels, traction tires, built in pilot, directional controller LEDs, body mount couplers. The coupler box is screwed in placed.

EMD GP38-2s – BN – 2020 Rebuild

The first run GP38-2s are back! The shells are from the first run of GP38-2s. The chassis is the 2020 version. We have rebuilt these locos and are excited to be able to offer them again. Supplies are limited!

I picked up one...it's tough to look at those handrails after being spoiled with the new ones, but that's fixable. I got 2290 which survived well into my era of the mid-2000's, still wearing BN stripes and NO BNSF PATCH. I'm not necessarily against patched units mind you, as I think they are important for setting the scene and the era. But to have a "legit" unpatched unit in stripes is nice to have in the mix, too.

If I knew they were going to go so fast I would have pulled over and ordered it right away!

There are still BN GP38-2's in stock through dealers, at least for now. Only one number out of stock at ZSM. Another place only has one number left, but it seems there are still options for the moment.

Soooo, I was super excited when my BN GP38 #2081 arrived from ZSM, opened it up quickly, (releasing the factory air-woosh!), looks really good!

But, there is no pilot or plow with these?? Kinda' bummed....

All my Milwaukee Road ones and Alaska RR's came with them, so like Jerry Sienfeld says,

"What's the deal??"

That would be correct. The Alaska is the 2020 run and came with the plows and pilots. The BN are from a much earlier run. These did not come with plows or pilots. The Milwaukee also did not come with them. The only GP38s that came with plows are the new 2020 run, Alaska, BNSF, SP, UP, MKT and Firsco.

Note we will be releasing additional early run GP38s with the 2020 chassis. These will not have plows or pilots. Both are available as add on parts on AZL Direct.
