This is an interesting product. In a nutshell, it is a DCC command station that relies on an inexpensive power supply and a laptop that can run JMRI...for the price of not much more than a basic DCC decoder. ($55)
Aside from the obvious application of an inexpensive, basic DCC system, there are some other applications that have been tossed around:
-possibly a autoreversing/booster station
-bench system for programming locos with JMRI
I committed to buy two...one for the latter use-case above, and one so that i can permanently mount it under my little roundy-roundy/portable/show layout and not have to lug around a larger DCC command station setup. FYI, I am not associated with the creator, nor can I guarantee it will be a good product. But it's based on tried-and-true technology and uses open source across the board so I feel like it will be a good, usable, flexible product. If you are using JMRI already, it is a low risk and high payoff type of deal, IMHO.
