These awesome passenger cars have me wondering - will we be getting a C&O E8 to pull them? Or more generally put: are there any plans for a second run of the E8 with new paint schemes?

Yes The C&O ordered 3 Strata-Dome cars in 1946 for "The Chessie" a Washington / Cincinnati Daylight route that was planned So yes technicality C&O did have 3 Dome Cars but, By the time the cars arrived they were no longer needed "The Chessie" had been canceled. The Dome Cars were sold to the B&O in 1950 where 2 of the 3 were put directly into service on the Capital Limited Thus the B&O Capital dome logo on the former C&O Cars, the 3rd was used on the Shenandoah for a few yeas before being used as a spare for the Capital Limited. All 3 cars changed hands several times and saw multiple paint schemes

You know I thought looking up the cars in Wikipedia would be enough for me. But I found myself going back to the questions, and doing a little more research, and a little bit more and ... So here's what I found to satisfy my inquisitive mind. The dome cars modeled, 1550 & 1551, were built by Pullman for the B&O Capitol service and with minor variations over the years seem to have always been in this C&O paint scheme: rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1244685The C&O dome cars, 7600-7602, were build by Budd as dome/sleeper cars. A more accurate Z scale model would be the Zephyr domes. While I haven't found a builder's photo for any of these cars, it appears that B&O always ran them as stainless steel with a white on blue letter board: The spotlights were added to these cars in 1952 so that dome passengers could sight see at night! And Jeff, after looking at a bunch of images, it seems that both roads, when not running the round-end observation cars, liked running a tail light mounted on a folding gate in the vestibule, Mark

Thanks Mark and David for info but I have seen Ho scale dome cars with C&O emblems. Bob Bob, The documentation is pretty conclusive that the C&O never ran the dome cars. After seeing your post I ran searches for the dome cars at Walthers and a couple other model databases and found none in any scale. That's not to say they never existed. That's why I'd like to see the builder's photo: to see how they arrived on the C&O. But for the moment, I'm thinking someone built the cars from the Builder's info only. Mark

It’s a Rivarossi corrugated car not light weight. But I new I had seen one. Just thought it was weird when I seen AZL have the B&O in line up of C&O passenger cars. I don’t really get into the history of who ran what or had what . Mark steers us in what’s right and wrong. So he stands correct.

Bob, I looked at the con-cor site and several of the dome cars they're offering are somewhat creative interpretations. Nothing wrong with that as long as people know what they're getting.
While I can watch the trains go around for hours, I find most of my visitors get bored after a few minutes. Having a bit of history helps maintain their interests. I've also developed a modeling philosophy over the years of "model what you know." This is what keeps me interested in the details, which is one of many aspects of model railroading.
As for this month's release, I've never seen the C&O, B&O or Chessie system and most likely never will, but it was an interesting exercise.
