AMERICAN Z LINE December 2019 New Releases ATSF (Valley Series) - Lightweight Passenger Cars! AZL has released thirteen cars for the ATSF Valley Series of passenger cars. The Valley series was the first smooth side streamlined sleepers purchased on the ATSF. Delivery began in June of 1942. The cars were delivered in coach green and two-tone gray. Many would be repainted in the aluminum color ‘shadow-lined’ scheme to blend in with the corrugated passenger cars. The cars later in life would be assigned to secondary trains as well as the Chief transcontinental passenger trains. Beautiful!
What AZL locomotives could be the right choice, as motive power for such cars?

Doing some research for modeling the Golden Spike centennial trains I have a couple of notes for these cars that might be of interest. Two valley series cars took part in the LA-Ogden-LA Gold Spike centennial train: Verde Valley and Mescalero Valley, both in shadow line. The train also pulled 3 ACF 4-4-2 Regal series cars. They were rib-sided and not yet modelled in Z.
For those who don't care about the west coast, the ATSF valley cars in two-tone grey were also the transcontinental sleeper for the B&O's Capital Limited until 1950 when they were replaced by the Budd 10-6 Pine series.
So much for morning trivia,
Mark

I’m not an expert on ATSF Valley trains , so my question is : do ATSF Valley trains have an observation car or not ?

eltiti, Valley is the name of the series of sleeper cars. Pullman generally named each car type design such as Pine, Valley, Regal and Imperial. The first class ATSF trains were generally named Chief, such as Super Chief and San Francisco Chief. The ATSF ran observation/lounge cars on many trains. However they preferred the rib-sided cars over the smooth-sided, as modelled in this release. Here's one such car: www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3595783Hope this helps, Mark

From the posted images the 2nd sleeper from MTL is Surprise Valley, no apparent overlap there. The AZL models still have the skirting and the prototypically correct silver trucks. Checking my Centennial train images, by 1969 the skirting had been removed.
