Is there a list of what Shells will accept what Chassis?
Example: A GP7 with an older AZL-(4-DIGIT) will this shell except a current AZL-(5-DIGIT) GP7 - GP9 chassis?
This information really should be in the AZL Knowledge Base.

I haven't actually tried, but there are significant differences between the 4 and 5-digit chassis and the their lighting boards. Of course almost anything is possible with a Dremel tool.
You have gotten me curious: why? I have both generations of GP7 and am happy with them as is. The is no doubt that the newer issue is superior in the sense of greater shell detail, better motor and DCC capability. And as far as I know, AZL has never sold the chassis and shells separately.
For me a more interesting question be fitting GPs between AZL and MTL. MTL has been selling shells for a long time and have some that AZL has yet to produce. Also for a while MTL was selling chassis only, which could leave one to wonder which AZL shells might fit on them.

I want the UP GP7 Road Numbers but the only ones I can find are the 4-digit models. I prefer better motor and DCC capability. If I can find out that I can use the newer chassis I'd buy the 4-digit models and update them to the 5-digit chassis. The best case would be for AZL to rerelease the UP GP7 Road Numbers.
