And here comes the result, made with buildings by "Z and US Models" and painted by my modeller friend : My "Town Hall" is from Shapeways, designed by Stony Smith : You can't go wrong with the County Courthouse from Stony Smith as a court house or town hall. It is indeed a nice structure.

The court house is perfect! Appropriate Main St shops for that era would be a book store, shoe shop, dress shop, toy shop, and bakery.

To Ptitrainrouge : Yes, lighting would be possible (but I won't use it), there are even cleats to add intermediate floors ...

That Town Hall building is really nice! Maybe look around for a lady's petite wrist watch, and put it in the tower, for a real clock! The clock doesn’t run. it was hit by lightning in 1955.

Seeing the latest images posted I'm very much impressed with you city block. Very typical of small-town America as to structure variety and paint. I'll have to contact Charlie to see what he can do for the old downtown Lodi that I'm working on. While you block is excellent just the way it is, may I suggest couple era specific details that might provide some additional interest. Advertising - By the 1960s Americans were placing advertising everywhere. As a poet of the day wrote: "I think that I shall never see a billboard lovely as a tree. Perhaps, unless the billboards fall, I'll never see a tree at all." Ogden Nash A billboard on one of your buildings would be appropriate. It could be corporate, although for a town the size of yours it might also be "Eat at Joe's Café" or "Hotel Royal, the best in town." The ones I find the most interesting are the "ghost" signs painted on the sides of brick building that never seem to weather away for products that are long gone: I seem to recall Zscale Monster has some decal sheets for these. By the late 1960s laws were being passed to limit the size, frequency and content of bill boards and advertisements. My other thought is dirt. The building are just a little to clean for the 1960s. We didn't really get very concern about the environment until the late 1960s again. So perhaps a bit of weathering powder some of the protrusions of some of the buildings. Mark

Billboards : OK. Weathering : No . The only weathering I used is on the tunnel portals ...

Billboards : OK. Weathering : No . The only weathering I used is on the tunnel portals ... I can’t disagree with you. When I have a model that looks as good as your buildings I would have a hard time convincing myself to add even the slightest weathering. If you need any, I have a file of billboard ads. Mark

Thanks Mark but, despite of the fact that I am 100% "non-smoker", I found on the Web some "posters" for cigarettes which look wonderfully "vintage".

Or what about this one : The original picture is from 1963, I modified it to add the text over the picture (I play electronic organ too ... but not Hammond ! )

A bit too pretty. Mark is referring to ads for Coca Cola, various cigarette brands, ads for flour or bread... basically daily consumer items.

Your idea with the billboard is good but ... where can I find bare models, NOT LASERCUT ? At Shapeways there is only one and it is almost as expensive as Miller's models with light !

Looking around I'm a bit surprised at all the billboards that are no longer available in Z. The GCLaser are good units, I've built several. But their design shape and size is really meant for free standing roadside use and although I haven't tried it, I don't believe they would fit on many Z scale roofs.
I agree with neverland that there are a lot of possibilities from : "Welcome to Alberichville, an all American city" to "Fly Pam Am to Paris," also my favorite from the era: "Esso [oil] put a tiger in your tank." But I think your selection above is perfectly reasonable and would most likely be mounted on a Music Shop. These billboards would be much smaller, probably not more than 4x8 feet. They might be mounted directly to a building's wall, or on a roof supported by just a pair of posts.

I took a glance at GC Laser's, they would fit if I cut them to one halfth, I ordered already 2 packs at Z-Scale-Monster ... And I found some pretty pictures from 1965 related with a well known "brown lemonade" !
