just checking if AZL or Micro Trains ever make civil war trains or Locomotives . I'm kind of history buff. Other than HO and N gauge train sets did anyone ever make set ? Maybe plans in future?

I think the closest is they're Nn3 boxcars.
M-T does a series from the Civil War, but in N-scale, I believe.

Neither AZL or MTL made a "Civil War" Loco that i'm aware of. However Shapeways makes a 3D printed 4-4-0 American type non powered model David

Maybe a Bachmann 4-4-0, but that's N-scale still, even though they are really small.
In Z-scale, you have the Marklin "Casey Jones" loco and the matching passenger cars.....

We may do a 4-4-0 one day (at least 5+ years out). The question for us is brass or injection? But it is a large investment since matching passenger and freight cars would have to be made as well.

Hans, If you'd be looking 5+ years out, shouldn't 3D printed be considered for an manufacturing process? It seems to me to be a very big project. Along with all new rolling stock, which wasn't particularly standardized in the 19th century, you'd also need new truck and coupler design, possibility even a new motor.
While I wouldn't mind getting a "Governor Stanford" locomotive, is there really a market for the era that justifies the investment? There are at least a dozen locomotive types that are higher up on my wants list.

I believe there is market , Marklin has been cashing in on small Steam locos for many years. Especially Christmas time. And doing up grade on the engine to smooth is out (5 Pole Motor) Rolling stock can start of just few you already make wood type Cars . Casey Jones Marklin was change from the Bumble Bee Durango. And is very Popular. Your getting lot of HO and N gauge switching over to Z scale because of size and better Locomotives , Tracks and Add-on's. I'd like to see General Hupt Locomotive or The Confederate Locomotive being rebuilt right now from Great train Robbery during the civil War. Shape Ways have good ideas just most don't work with Z scale size chassis. I've tried several and not at all satisfied with them. If you don't expand out of just more ore less Modern Trains , just like Real trains that became thing of past. Newer Locomotives are great with all new Digital. But nothing warms heart like the old Steam Motion.

At the moment, we have 3 unannounced injection locomotives and 2 unannounced brass locomotives in process. Maybe one of these projects will materialise late 2018. The rest are for 2019 and 2020. We will announce one new locomotive at this years NTS. The lead times are long and getting longer. 3D printing is not viable today, but will probably be in the future. Märklin has a good system for making different bodies to fit existing chassis. We have not chosen that route. If we add different bodies to our Mikado, brass is probably our solution.

I could be mistaken, but isn't this a more obscure era even in, say HO? I'm a big fan of early steam though. It would be awesome to see some come to Z. On the topic of 3D printing, Micro Trains Line has printed parts for their N scale Boeing fuselage transportation sets. I think the biggest downside is the time it takes for just one print. Maybe the smaller size and smaller production runs of Z scale makes it more viable.

Mr. Riddervold, your Mikado is far better and closer to real engine than any Marklin has. not sure why other than European engineered made it closer to what they already had . I bought used one to copy Polar Express Mikado but when I got it I realized it wasn't very accurate example. So I chosen to buy AZL , just can't buy now after buying Monongahela Heritage AZL for Christmas, I don't even have decent track to run it on. But I'm WDHT(wheeler dealer horse trader) And find ways eventually. I for one don't care much for Smoke shields on most Marklin's Steam Locomotives. When I get one it's first thing comes off with putting What used to be called cow puncher on front. Yes I've seen pictures of American Steam engines with Smoke shields . but kind like when I was younger and road Motor cycles with out helmet. We Americans were free to speed and smoke flew past. I don't think the European Trains were much into speed because of distances between Countries and Tracks. Probably why Zeppelin train held record for so long over there. just casual observance. So Far AZL is Best. Marklin got out of brass and into Metal and lately more plastic is showing up down grading them farther.
