So far, my Halloween train has been a bust. (I should have started earlier)
HOWEVER, I still have big plans for a Z scale Christmas Holiday Train!
1.) Pulled by the AZL CNW UP Heritage SD70Ace (green and yellow) 2.) Alternating Red and White AZL 4 bay covered hoppers (10 total, Alternating each color to look like a candy cane.) 3.) Green and Red cars (suggestions needed)
Graffiti cars were good for Halloween, but I don't think much about having them for Christmas. The 40' cars look dinky to me, even the 12 Days of Christmas cars ...so I'm not planning on using any.
I do have a green MTL 50' box car from the "Evergreen Express" Christmas set, that I will use.
Anybody else running a Holiday Train? What other ideas, are there?
Thanks everyone,
...Merry Christmas!
Rory

Thanks everyone, ...Merry Christmas! Rory Rory Sounds great can't think of any right off the top of my head. I personally have 3 different MTL Chirstmas train sets . Hopefully some day I can build a winter layout to run them on. Bob

Thanks,Bob
Thanks also for the Heritage SD70Ace. I appreciate that!
I'm not much into Micro Mouse, but did just buy the 1993 and 2003 MTL Holiday cars.
I might get over my objection to 40' cars, somehow.
Which 3 MTL Christmas sets did you get?

Rory I have 2012 tree trim express,2009 santa work train and I think the last was ever green express. Oh the 2015 reindeer belt set would work great with the smooth side passenger cars for,you maybe.
Oh your very welcome on the SD70 Glad to hear you enjoy it.

Thanks Bob:
Brooklyn Locomotive works still has that one.
The 1993 and 2003 MTL cars that I just bought on eBay have Marklin couplers.
I'm taking my time before using buy-it-now ...from now on

I have one Christmas car to pull behind my Commodore Vanderbilt. Behind it I'll pull a flatbed with a micro trimmed tree, followed by a red caboose.

For a red caboose try AZL's WP bay window. Intermointain has produced some red and green hoppers (if you don't mind plugging Canada). There are some Boise Cascade white and green cars floating around. I can't think of any well or flat cars that aren't yellow or brown. Maybe alternating green and silver Burlington heavyweights?
For head end, a Christmas train is really crying out for a green Southern Mikado. After that the green and silver UP WP heritage SD70ace. A green WP GP from MTL. Of course for Christmas you can't go wrong with a red war bonnet.

Commodore, why don't you look at the Marklin 81846 Christmas train? I bought one last year and love it.

Commodore...I am not sure what roads or era you are modelling but it seems that you are going to build a Christmas train with lots of different road names and eras. At least a semi-prototypical train could be a BN loco like a GP30 or SD45, alternating BN and ATSF beer cars and a BN Wide Vision Caboose. Just a suggestion. P.S. Not judging you at all on your choices.
