If you have tons of GP38-2 and SD70 in stock sell them discounted and they will go, don't worry about margins, you make enough money anyway Hi Frank, I do not think you will see any more undecorated locomotives from AZL. There are a bunch of problems with undecs: 1) They cost us the same to produce as decorated locomotives. I know everyone will say this doesn't make sense, but it is true: the cost of painting the locomotive on an assembly line is just a few cents. Once we deal with another product number and packaging, the cost of an undec is the same as fully painted. We cannot save you any money by supplying it undecorated. 2) Our factories really do not like to produce them because they cannot understand why anyone would want one unpainted when it cost the same as fully painted. It take me hours to explain that somebody wants to paint their own. 3) Most important, these are by far our worst sellers. We did listen when people said they wanted undecorated locos, but so far, it was all talk and no action. I've got tons of GP38-2 and SD70 undecorated sitting here. I would send them back to be painted, but once assembled, it is very difficult to properly pad print around the hand rails! There was ONE exception to this: RDC - it was an OK seller, but in fairness, it was partially painted silver with a black underframe, so all that was needed was decals for your favorite road name and you were all done. As always, our solution is to buy one decorated and simply repaint it. Good luck, -Rob(A) AZL

BTW: has somebody already received E8s and if so what is the performance and impressions?
I'm happy to wait for an E7s as they are sufficiently different to warrant new tools.

So the front coupler with pilot is fixed and can't swivel?

MILW 800 had 4x small 36' cap top roof fans, winterization hatch and closed skirting. The ACI bar code belongs onto the railing or cab. All pieces and bits to get it right are in your product range. BTW: MILW 302 had a large winterization hatch and the numbers on a separate board.... Gerd: You are either a die-hard railfan or a bona-fide hoghead ( link). Which is it? Neither, just casual observer using google ;-)

MTL's model will never come back I am wondering what is the source for comments like this? How do you know MTL will NEVER release it again? My source? Pure speculation on the fact with MTL's Sandakan disaster 3 years ago (or even longer?) and tooling locked up and not pulling something off in that time frame warrants for me to say never. I'm addition to it : with all AZL offerings with prototypical width locos the " fat " MTL locos are something from yesterday.... Unfortunately

Wow, that subject appears to be really interesting to everyone. Hey admins, if you read this (chances are low, because no reaction from you guys either) you can delete this post.

How about this? MTL's model will never come back and the GP35 was one of the most popular ever. Since you guys have done all the work with the modular chassis it's more or less a matter of the shell.

Great idea, to take the plunge and do the ES44AC instead! Following the famed F7 and E8! On the waybill for cars: the COIL CAR so far was available only from a great special car builder on a small , speak long-time-a-wait, production. Hope he keeps on living! Don't worry, I have built so many of those cars it's enough for some time. But if there's more demand, AZL has limited themselves, as it looks like, to so called type 5 cars, I had type 4 and the most common type 3 , too. Anyway plastic can't replace real metal ;-)

Good to see that I can inspire a big manufacturer to come out with a product for the masses. Nice F3 and finally the E8, yeah!

Looks like a version of the 7.5mm can motor AZL has used in recent offerings

Max, I don't own any of those locos but have temp. both in my possession. I can confirm all your observations, the Challenger is of a much better build, the casting and details are sharper. I have compared both to my Aijn built GS-3 too with the same result, the Challenger is of the same , high quality, the Bigboy is not in the same class. Interesting too is the fact the plastic Mikados for $200 have a higher detailed running gear in comparison.
