Hello ...
On an English forum I saw that platform height was 3' over the top of the rails in the 50's. What's about US railways for the same time ? The question is important because all "standard" kits are for "standard" (Märklin) tracks ; but I will use Rokuhan. In fact, I saw at Shapeways that a german modeller was even selling a base to adapt the Faller "Blumendorf" station for Rokuhan !
Thanks for any answer ...

I'm not sure I have a simple answer. The NMRA standard uses 3'. The NMRA clearance datasheet (D9p) describes the "typical" platform to be 3' 7" and for the average 1953 platform and recommends 4' for passenger and refrigerator cars. All from the rail top of course.

Thank You Mark. This means that for my Budd's I should use 5.5mm (4'/220) over the rail, i.e. 10.75mm (5.25+5.5), or simply 10.5 from the "base" plate where the tracks are fixed ... I think my problem has been solved.

More important is the clearance for the cars. I use just below the rails on my passengers platforms. It doesn't interfere with power pickup.

No problem, I will test that the Budd's can run freely before fixing the station ; I can test with freight trains, too, although they use another track (without a platform) ; both tracks will be straight, so no additional clearance for curves is needed ...
Now I thought that the best way is to measure the various values on the models themselves : - On the Budd's the lowest step is about 2.25mm over the rail, if I put the platform 5.5mm then there will be a gap, due to the stairs. So I think 2 to 2.25mm (over the rails) will be correct for passenger platforms (1' in 1/1). - The main problem are the box cars : with a 40' by MTL I found 6.75mm over the rails ; so I must probably rise the height of the freight platforms and/or consider the use of a forklift. - Faller (and I think Kibri too) passenger platforms are 6mm ; with Märklin tracks (2.7mm) this gives a height of 3.3mm over the rails (about 2.5' in 1/1) and this is too high for Budd's (problem with the "gap") ; but it's adequate with Rokuhan if I put a piece of 1.5mm plastic under the kit. - I built the "Torrnstein" station by Archistories, I must say a good kit and very good service (they replaced with no costs a part that I "destroyed" ... ) ; but the platform is made of 4 layers of 0.8mm cardboard, so it would be a maximum of 3.8mm (if the glue has some "thickness") and this could only be adequate with Märklin (with an additional layer of 1.25mm) and for Budd's ; with Rokuhan I would have to add about 3.75mm ; so I think I will use the structure as a Post Office, as suggested with the kit, and use the "Dreieichen" (Kibri) or the old "Neustadt" (Faller, only on EBay, out of stock at Faller) with an additional 1.5mm (this could ABOUT be the height for the pavement along the street, if I rise the street itself by .75mm).
