Has anyone here made a small layout (24" x 36" or close to that)? I would like to create one but need some ideas. If you have a layout that is somewhat small, please post some pics and descriptions. Thanks for looking.

The place to start looking for micro and small layout design is www.carendt.comOooh...I snagged a Noch Bärenweiler too. It took me a little while to figure out why it has 5 turnouts! Most of the Noch layouts feature simple loops and one interesting loop. I hope the track plans are still posted on their website.

As it happens, any HO layout that's 4'x 8' scales down to about that size in Z. Certainly close enough that you can make adjustments. The good news is that there are hundreds of good HO small layout designs out there...a quick web search will turn up a ton. Many are quite involved. If you'd like circular designs to run trains, you can find those. Or if you're into switching challenges, you can find those as well. Here is a nice site to start: www.thespruce.com/4x8-track-plans-model-train-layouts-2382044Good luck! -Kenn

Here's a feasibility image of a layout I did about 20 years ago. It's 36" square. I've never been happy with a dimension <30" as it doesn't allow you to do much more than just turn around unless you use the smaller curves as you can see from the 12" adder on the bench work. Mark

Thanks for looking. If your space is limited you have to be creative in order to make it happen with little space without too much compromises on a prototypical impression. I recommend to take a look at the principle illustrated in this article; www.spur-z-atelier.de/data/uploads/MIBA-SP110_Tauschmodulanlage-1.pdfNiles Junction was build this way. azlforum.com/post/7324/threadIt is extremely handy. I can transport it even in a sports car! Nobody ever complained about this not being prototypically enough. And it was sufficiently big to get published. Thus, take a look at this concept for small and very small layouts. I am sure you will like it........... Best, Sven

I'm space challenged as well and my layout is just 2' by 4'. Nothing fancy but since this is my very first train layout since my ex got the N scale years ago, I'm keeping it simple. I'm excited to get started!!
