I think I already know the answer to this but...was there ever AZL tooling for the round hatch version(s) of the ACF 3-Bay Covered Hopper roof? I received my Black Friday ACF's and my plan is to remove the WP-lettering from the WP cars to create generic/spartan ACFX hoppers. I think a lot/most of these cars had hatches versus the troughs used in grain service so as I was working on removing lettering last night I started looking at the possibilities. Once I had the walkways removed, I started wondering if AZL ever actually did this tooling. Not that they actually keep parts for sale (boo) but if they exist(ed) it might be worth finding and making a resin copy of the piece. Otherwise, this obviously would be a perfect thing to design/create using Shapeways so that might be the next step. I can scratchbuild the hatch lids and file down the troughs and be fine for ONE, but if was going to do a handful it might be worthwhile to be able to duplicate the process more easily. So either a resin copy of that or SW would be the best options probably. Another "already know the answer" but...are the roofwalk parts available separately? (had to ask) I was able to carefully remove the one last night and it looks like I can reinstall it fairly easy but I imagine there is at least some risk that one of them might not be so cooperative.

I don't know if they are removable or not but Intermountain has cylindrical hoppers with individual hatches.Maybe you could use one of those to get your round hatch pattern.

You could make them out of styrene sheet with a small punch and small styrene strips. Doesn't the type of hatch depend of the type of load?
