I want to thank the AZL team for this forum. I just bought my first train set, the Dallas TRE set from AZL direct. Thanks to the forum I will not try to couple these together by shoving them together. I have learned so much just from reading the forum.

Tom the thing with Z is take your time, there's so much can be done. lay your track well, keep it clean and you will have great running trains (forget the MTL F7, looks ok runs crap) I have built 2 exhibition layouts here in the UK, goto www.dawdawes.com to check out Lincoln Z and California Coast. New Milwaukee in build at the moment with turntable and loco shed. Also check out Shasta by Kev Smith

Last night I got the Dallas TRE set up and running. The rerailer ramp does not work with such long cars so I had to put each one on by hand. Every thing about Z is small. I can't believe gerd and ams actually paint these things. I really haft to get used to the fact that guys who should be in G scale because of there eyes are actually in Z Scale.

Tom, Sounds like you're having fun. The MTL rerailer ramp is the longest in Z and might be more useful to you. I think most people who work on Z use some sort of magnification. I personally use a 10-40x digital microscope. They're nearly as cheap as a good visor and gives you a good opportunity to really see the amount of detail that's put in these models: Mark

Mark I have the MTL rerailer but the cars are so long that the couplers go under the coupler of the car already on the track. I bought MTL track on Ebay after seeing a notice that said the Mikado needed 220mm curves. If I had known about this Forum I would have bought Rokuhan track instead.

Tom, Yeah even with the MTL rerailer things are tight. You really need to use the rerailer just to get the car on the track and couple cars afterwards. We could always hope that some manufacturer The MTL track is a good track and I've used it for years. Just not as many layout options as the Rokuhan. But don't forget there are ways of using the two track types together.
