Good evening....I have come across a Rogue Locomotive Works C44-9W in the BNSF Heritage I Pumpkin scheme. I have this loco in hand but it is not something I will hang on to. Can anyone give me an idea of the value of one of these locomotives? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello guys, are you kidding? The RLW C44s are this expensive nowadays? I have a RLW C44-9 in silver ATSF livery on my layout. As she is the worst runner on the layout, she has been more or less a decorative item on a nonpowered siding for the last 15 years. Unbelievable. I came across this thread, as I want to convert my layout to DCC and I was wondering which decoder to choose and how to install in the RLW C44-9 and very early AZL SD45 (has no circuit board in it). Cheers from overseas, Lutz

Sad but true. The old brass models are commanding high and even mind blowing obscene prices. It's probably investors driving up the prices on these rare and hard to get beauties. I know that I wouldn't be able to afford these prices. I bought a couple of the latest brass releases, the Krauss and I thought that they were pretty expensive. Even though I like them both a lot. I saw that, Doug. And I was thinking at the time "that's a pretty expensive paper weight" if it doesn't run. Perhaps the guy knows how to fix/replace the motor. Or maybe he can try to fit the brass shell on a new ES44 chassis and make it a better runner? If so, maybe he got a "steal" by getting the brass shell for $400 and a new ES44 chassis for $200. Total outlay of $600 versus $2500 for a working one. Boy, I wish I had thought of that sooner. I might have bid on that non-working ATSF.

Oh yeah, I'm sure he'll go the ES44 route...it would be silly not to. I had that exact plan in mind and had the initial bid and eventually another winning bid with less than 30m to go. But alas I didn't stay in as I figured it would hit 400 and then 600 before it was all over. I was surprised it didn't make it to 400.

I miss my BNSF brass Dash 9. I tested its pulling power on a large oval once made up of the MTL snap track. I placed MTL 48' cast metal container cars behind it. I only had enough containers to fill all cars once and about 20+ cars with 2 containers. I had near 50 well cars behind it. The wheels spun on the Dash 9 so I placed my Santa Fe Dash 9 on top of the BNSF Dash 9 and it pulled all of the cars. Talk about being shocked! Never seen anything like since with that kind of pulling power!
I miss that Loco. Needed rent money one month and both Dash 9's paid the rent. That was like 15 years ago.
I miss that Loco!

I sold three, two NS C40-9W and a UP C44-9W for under $250 each. Someone on this thread bought one NS for $125.00. They weren't running and I didn't want to charge obscene prices, so lucky them. I hope they got it running.
