I have a chance to put my hands on the 970 01 040 and 050 cp rail sd40-2 and I was wondering if they are dcc ready?

TCS had a board that would fit but required filing the board mounts on the chassis. The problem is the notches on the board are round and the posts are square. It's a bit tricky to get filed just right too much and the board is lose not enough and chassis sits too wide and shell doesn't fit well. Also the tabs on the chassis posts are somewhat fragile and can break pretty easy. If you twist the file while filing you have a goo chance of snapping it off. Look at TCS website I believe they have instructions on the process.

I'm not sure that the Z2 wouldn't be as much work as the "Drop-in" boards. The problem is that MTL changed the design of the board pins on the chassis after TCS built the board. The issue also exists with late model GPs from MTL. Having done the GP35, it wasn't that big a task and I wonder if it isn't as much work to fit a Z2 on the chassis and rebuild the lighting board. I'm not certain, but I believe the Digitrax board (DZ123MO) will work without the surgery on the posts. I'd check with them to be sure.
BTW: the springs used to connect power to the PCBs are obsolete and impossible to find. Take care in handling them.
