I am pretty new to Z scale and still have a few kinks to etch out but I am planning on making my own turnouts and was wondering what would be the optimal turnout size for freight and passenger cars?

If you have room, go with a #8. A #6 will work with most six axle locos.

Thanks all, I ordered a no 8 for now, will try a no 6 eventually, compared the printout turnouts to the micro train turnout which really seemed to be a 4.25 turnout and thought I would be fine with either 6 or 8 and since I have plent of room, decided to try 8 first... Because of the cost of the jig...
