Good evening....what is the minimum radius that an AZL GP7 will run on and stayed coupled to a 40' Micro-Trains car? Thanks for the help.

Dave, I haven't specifically tested the GP7, but the GP38 is marginal on 120mm. Mark
I should add that the 55mm (127mm radius) turnouts don't work well with these locos.

Dave Based on my experience and fairly extensive testing when Rokuhan launched the 120mm radius track, I'd say you can't expect reliable running from Geeps (both AZL and MTL) on a radius below 145mm. IMHO the 120mm is just a nice idea.

markm and atw,
Thanks for your responses. I was hoping that they might do 120mm. I guess I will have to look at a Searails Model 40 or GE 25T. Thanks again.

The märklin short locos or Searails and the like are fine with 120 but most any of the 2 truck locos - NO.

I haven't specifically tested the GP7, but the GP38 is marginal on 120mm. I should add that the 55mm (127mm radius) turnouts don't work well with these locos. Bummer, I swore I read somewhere that the 127mm worked with the GP38's. I have some industrial trackage planned--using the 127mm turnouts and respective curve track--but worst case I can retrofit if it's absolutely unworkable. My initial testing seemed like it wasn't a problem, but I admit I didn't do as much testing as I would have liked. It's only corn syrup cars and 50ft boxcars so maybe if I stick to those I'll be ok.

Maybe I should expand my comment a bit. I played with the turnouts and 127mm radius a while back and posted some comments on Trainboard.com . Using the turnout and 127mm to form a parallel track. The only rolling stock that would work are two axle. For my parallel siding I needed at least 55mm straight between the turnout and 127mm curve. This works for MTL 40' cars, but the GP38-2 goes through but looks like it's going to fall off the track. So on my layout, the rule will be that the loco doesn't enter the points.
I think your syrup and boxcars would make it through. I'd recommend trying your layout before you commit to it. If you have your plan, you might want to post it for comments.

Mark, thanks for the info. I needed more of the curves before I officially tested the full configuration and they are actually on the way. Like I said, if it turns out to be a deal killer, I have a plan B.
