Good morning...I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Did anyone receive any Z-Scale items as a Christmas gift? I got an AZL Mikado in Burlington Route and my outer oval (270mm) of Rokuhan track. Have a great day!

Dave, Does it count if you buy it for yourself? Unfortunately, the local train store doesn't have a gift registry, so I don't get much Z in gifts. But I did get myself enough track to do the Livermore/Altamont module of my Altamont & Western Railroad (A&WRR). I think you'll like the AZL Mikado. I have the WP units and overall happy: they run very well. I haven't figured out a good way to MU them yet (a common occurrence through the prototype Altamont Pass). Great pullers. I can tell you mine do a 13 car Heavyweight Pullman train quite easily.

Mark,
Do you have any videos of your Mikado pulling the heavyweights? I would like to see some AZL Heavyweights in Burlington Route but I doubt it will happen.

I got the Nansen street Z scale roundhouse and 2 TCS decoders. My birthday was right before Thanksgiving and I got a 4 pack of PFE wood reefers (sweet) and a second AT&SF caboose. I am so glad I never got the Marklin ones off ebay. Someone hijacked my ATM card just before Christmas, so now that all is fixed, I have a glut of unused funds to spend. Oh for shame, what to do, what to do.

Rob, are you willing to give an approximate time frame for the Burlington heavyweights?

Rob, are you willing to give an approximate time frame for the Burlington heavyweights? Lots of products in the pipeline, but this is a re-run of existing tooling. The purchase order was issued a couple of months ago. Next step is I should start seeing artwork, but nothing so far. I would guess 6 to 12 months from now, but thats really a guess, and not much more. They ARE comming. But when? Don't know. I wish I had a better idea myself.

tjdreams (David),
Can you tell us a little bit about your Searails Model 40? I am curious about running qualities, fit and finish (the paint looks a little rough), lighting, other comments on the model. Also, what controller/power are you using since these only have a 6V motor and Searails says to not use any sort of pule controller. Thanks for your help.

Also, what controller/power are you using since these only have a 6V motor and Searails says to not use any sort of pule controller. Thanks for your help. I haven't ran mine other than to put them on a module to check and see if they worked and to take some pictures when I first got them. I should note I intentionally put them on my Dirty Track to see how they would react. At first on the Dirty Track they were both a little jerky and needed to be nudged along. But after thoroughly cleaning the track and running them back and forth a couple times they Both smoothed out and ran ok. On Clean track I could run them from one end to the other and back on my 4' module with out needing to be nudged at all. Clean Track made a big difference in their performance. I meant to take them with me to run at the show this passed weekend but, I didn't realize I had forgotten them till I was already at the show. A 4.5 hour, 175 mile round trip is to far to go back for them. For power I was using the Rokuhan RC-01 controller that I installed a Volt/Amp meter in. My Modified Rokuhan RC-01Once on the layout they will be on their own track powered by a old snail speed controller wired to a battery holder with 4 AA batteries which will put out a max of 6v. Similar to this one linkThe Coupler height was spot on and both pulled the one Coil Car I had left on the module with ease. I suspect they would have no problem pulling 4 or 5 cars each on a level grade But I don't know as I only had the one car on hand at the time I did the test run. The directional headlights worked but on one of them when viewing from directly behind I could see a little flicker of light coming from the rear light which I suspect was just a reflecting from the light at the other end. I had planned to give both a custom paint job so they were ordered with just a base coat of primer, one Gray and one Black. As for fit and finish I've seen better and I've seen worse. David
