To all the Milwaukee modellers out there, I need to hear your thoughts please. If AZL was to do a GP30 repaint would you be happy if the loco ran on the wrong trucks, I ask this as the Milwaukee GP30s ran on ARR type B trucks I would be, as sometimes we must compromise. Thoughts please cheers Dave D UK Attachments:

Dave,
Couple thoughts here. If you need a GP30 in your roster and AZL offers one, buy it. Even if they don't offer it, you can always buy one, strip it and paint it yourself. If you're looking for something that is prototypical, you're probably not going to get it, although, AZL does a pretty good job of getting you close. That's where the challenge comes into play - remember we model Z scale and if it's not available, we usually have to make it (if a prototypical look is what you are looking for). Ok, easy for me to say but with any AZL release, I always try to purchase the road # that is the closest match to the prototype I need/want to model. Case in point, I purchased a wide vision caboose that needs some modifications - windows filled, grab irons added.... I bought it knowing full well that I would have to modify it and I wanted to challenge myself so I selected the road # that was a bit more difficult this time. But that's me, and in your situation, I would try to modify the facia of the trucks'. If your so inclined to modify it down the road, give it a shot. If not, buy it and run it that's the fun of modeling.

Dave, I didn't want to discourage you on the MILW GP30. My comment was based on the fact their GP30s were not very stock. As you already know, there are the trucks. There are also deviations from stock on a number of applied details. We have had discussions here with other AZL models like the USRA Mikado and AC-12: how far from stock does one stray from stock?
