Hello
I read here and there in the AZL forum about the Aztec track cleaning cars. Some of you seems to use it. Since it's costly, I wanted to have your opinion on it before purchasing one.
Thank you

Hi Patrice,
They work exceptionally well. No question.
If I had a layout that had been in storage for a few years, I would manually clean the track first with Electronic Contact cleaner or something like that.
But for maintaining clean track, the Aztec car really does work. Just let it pass over the rails a few times and it does a super job of getting everything to run smoothly. It is the gentle touch of the cleaning process that really makes a difference.
Highly recommended to decrease your frustration and increase your enjoyment of our tiny scale.
Best, -Rob(A)

I agree. I bought one about 6 months ago and have been very happy with it. The first time around the layout after not running for a bit and the loco kinda stutters, but on the second and definitely the third time around, things run like a clock. I highly recommend it. It is worth the cost.

Thank you for your answers.
I use Rokuhan tracks. I see on the Aztec website that the track cleaner car has a magnet. I suppose it's to be more effective by keeping the car on the track very thightly. I tried to put a magnet on my tracks and nothing happens. I don't know what kind of metal Rokuhan use but it doesn't seem to attract magnets. I don't know for other brands of tracks since I don't have any other.
Does somebody uses it on Rokuhan tracks or can confirm that the magnet has another purpose.
Thank you

I have one that I use on Rokuhan track and it works great. The magnet is for collecting debris on the track not for down force. the weight of the cleaning drum is the only down force. the trick to it is the drum sits at an angle so as it rolls with the car it want to roll off the track but the car holds it in place and that is how the cleaning friction is achieved.

I thought the Aztec car was a little expensive, too, but it works great and makes it easy to keep the track in good shape. I wouldn't be without one now.

As davestubbs said the magnet is for picking up metallic objects not for down force. I've run mine on Marklin Peco Rokuhan and Micro Trains track and it works the same on them all.

You are right mrja.
...but I gave them a call and it was very easy and quick. I talked to John I think. He is a very nice guy.
I am now waiting for my cleaning car.
Thanks to you and this forum, I am sure I made a good choice.

I have three of these, 1 for each of my three main lines. They do work incredibly well, but I've found that putting them ahead of an engine, makes cleaning more effective. This way it cleans the track before the engine itself passes over it. Expensive? Yes but they are worth it. The only problem I've found with them is it is time consuming and bothersome to take them apart to get the drum out to clean. Very finicky I think. But it can be done.

I have one as well. While I would rather order online, I had no problems. I will probably get me another one soon as I need to order an HO scale one too.

After reading the start of this thread, I decided to order an Aztec cleaning car. I called John, spoke to him briefly, and ordered over the phone. The car arrived 2 days later, which I thought was fast. I have run it all over my layout and agree with all the others who like it. Definitely worth the investment!

I received mine last week and I have to say that I am very happy with it. Locomotives run smoother than ever without any hesitation. I can run at very low speed. It definetly gives the final touch on the cleaning of the track and will surely keep them that way. As everybody already said: It's worth every dollar.
Thank you
