Just starting to set up decoders and am looking for any suggested Starting, Mid and Max voltage CV settings

That depends on the decoder. With TCS, I don't touch them. With Digitrax, I adjust the decoder until step one moves the loco.

Thanks for your info re starting voltage. Is there any worry about leaving Max CV at the top setting? Will this put too much voltage to the motor? LarryO

I used to limit the voltage when I started, but I haven't done it since. It really doesn't matter if you run it at realistic speeds. I been running dcc for five years? and I haven't not toasted a motor due to too much voltage. I use app call Modelspeed to track the speed of my locos. Its also to useful to mu the engines.

LarryO Hi Larry, Best practice is to leave MAX CV at the top setting, but make sure the voltage going into your DCC system is no more than the max rated for your locomotive. Which locos are you running with DCC?

Hi Robert Just received my AZL CNR SD70 with factory installed (according to my dealer) decoder in the mail and want to set up CV in an appropriate manner. Don't know what decoder is installed. I also have 2 MTL GP-9's, that came in sets, with DZ123M0 decoders that I installed. I'm using a new MRC Prodigy wireless unit with a digitrax voltage reducer for use with Zscale. Just starting to build benchwork so am using a stand alone program track and a short "running" track. Any ideas you might have would be appreciated. LarryO

Hi Larry,
With the Digitrax voltage reducer, you are good to go. Set VMAX at 255 (or just leave it alone - it is already st properly from Digitrax)
Best, -Robert
