I seem to be the only one who is actively modeling the n&w. Surely this can't be true. Had anyone else custom painted their own n&w pieces? I know it's a popular railroad but it's slim Pickings with Z. Maybe, just maybe I've inspired Rob and Hans to start making some n&w lol.

It would be nice to see an Appalachian coal train. I was going over a site that had a lot of photos of cars. Lots of 3 bay coal hoppers, bunch of covered hoppers, lots of gondolas and a bunch of steel gondolas, and of course boxcars. I do pre 1962 CB&Q, so if there was something N&W pre 62, I would possibly put them on in a train. (except coal hoppers) . It is a cool railroad with a good mix of engines and just the fun of winding mountain scenery and lots of coal, it would be interesting to have in Z.

How about the n&w J? My project is going slow and won't be as nice as a factory piece. I'm sure you won't tell me but any chance on spilling the beans for a few details of what's in the works?

I've got quite a few 2 bay hoppers. I've painted a few n&w diesels and I'm working on a class j. My layout is called the appalachian model railroad.

Guys, I have to admit I didn't know what the N&W was until I looked it up. Sorry but I don't think I've ever seen an N&W car.

The n&w became Norfolk Southern. We still see some n&w cars around here. Most have been repainted but they still show up.

Yes, they went through the popular railfanning location of Marion, OH, for one. As mentioned, it's now NS. You can see a N&W car just after the 1:50 mark.

I have always loved the "J" and I think it would look great with Powhatan Arrow passenger cars, but it would have to be a brass project. Hans has a good record at picking Brass winners (Big Boy, Challenger, AC12, GS3/4) so he takes the lead in picking the next brass project. You should fill up his inbox with Class "J" pre-orders. That usually gets his attention!

Hi, We are starting work on our next brass steam this month. Please do not be impatient, the project will take about 18-24 months. What is the prototype. Actually it is not decided, but N&W J class, ATSF 4-8-2/4, a PRR K4 and a NYC Niagara are all under consideration. Once the project is up and running we will update the AZL Forum. Sincerely, Hans

Sincerely, Hans Thanks for the information Hans. My vote is for the J. I'm not impatient. I think J would be a good project and then offer a set of passenger cars (heavyweights) to go with it would be perfect. I know its a big undertaking and and expense on your part to pick a new model. All those engines would be good to have. I will say you haven't done an eastern railroad brass engine in steam.

Wow! This sis great news, Hans. As a fan of eastern roads, 3 of the 4 fit the bill for me. My vote is for the N&W jclass. I would love to see #611. It has a wonderful history and has been released many times in other scales. I would buy one the moment you release it!

I would love to see the "Northern" (4-8-4) SF road number 3751 as it's a restored by the San Bernardino Railway Historical Society, so works with the idea of running with my 4014 Big Boy on current day track. James

A 2-8-8-2 class y3 would be sweet. You can have Union Pacific, n&w, Pennsylvania, and Santa Fe all with one engine!
