Doug I display and run my z collection. N scale and O are in different display cases. Nice display! Yeah, I display my Z and N stuff too, but I don't buy anything in either scale ONLY for display, which is what I was referencing. Thanks Doug Need another case to separate east and west coast rr. I have the west still in jewel cases except for the WP and DR&G which you see.

Are those the metal cars from Hungary on ebay? The ones I have are from Simon Artz in Hungary off ebay. As was pointed out, they’re usually not cheap, unless you get lucky on a bid, but they are very nice. The nicest I’ve seen.

AMERICAN Z LINE April 2024 New Releases Part 1 SD70ACE – Union Pacific – D&RGW Heritage! *saving up cash for when a scalper pops one up on Epay.... There was a seller on eBay auctioning one a few months back starting at $700 or best offer. I offered $500 and it was refused. The item was never sold. A month later, the announcement was made that the Heritage models will be released again, and I was fortunate enough to get a D&RGW Heritage an d a BNSF 25th anniversary model. I missed out on the Spirit of UP unit, and I'm super pissed about that. No one has scalped that one on eBay yet that I'm aware of.

Another point to be made . Sales are Geographically made on some scales I think. You guys bring up NS heritage units in z scale not selling out fast or warehouse dust collectors. So it is ,I believe that eastern US z scalers are few and far apart. As west and mid west are more . Probably is why UP and BNSF does well. This is an interesting point and it may have some validity to it. However, i don't recall their being a poll or survey to prove or disprove this theory. Not wanting to get into an east coast/west coast debate but let's explore this a little bit. I live in California so I'm more familiar with UP, SP, ATSF, BNSF, and of course Amtrak. I've purchased all of these in Z scale. I've also purchased DRGW, WP, and other fallen flags, why maybe because they're part of UP. But I have also purchased KCS belle scheme, BN, IC, Frisco, Alaska, RI, Burlington, and SCL locomotives. Why, because I like the way they look. Their paint schemes won me over. But let's just say for a moment that there really are more UP and BNSF modelers/fans in Z scale. That would help to explain why these roads always seem to do very well. Plus, it's been mentioned on this forum oh a few times that Hans is a SP fan.I remember that when the UP and BNSF regular (non-heritage) SD70's were first released they also sold out pretty quickly. Not as fast as the UP heritage ones, but stil fairly quickly, And that was both regular and safety cab versions. The UP and BNSF ES44AC's followed suit and likewise sold out fairly quickly. So if it's true that there are more west and mid west Z scalers, you may have unknowingly revealed AZL's marketing strategy. AZL is a 2--3 person entity that is trying to nurture, grow, and flourish the North American Z scale hobby. At times it almost seems like they're trying to do this mostly by themselves as they are doing the lions share of the products with help from many other smaller companies. AZL wanting to expand the offerings, choices, locomotives, rolling stock, innovation and all will naturally require -- a lot of money and investment. Where will they get that from? Remember this isn't a publicly traded stock company. They get it from catering to their largest and most established "fan base". Did anybody notice what Hans said? There will be SIX new road numbers for UP SD70, SIX new road numbers for BNSF SD70, SIX new road numbers for UP ES44, and SIX new road numbers for BNSF ES44. Compare that to the usual 2-3 road numbers for most releases. Can you imagine the UP fans salivating at getting 12 new locomotives for their fiddle yard? BNSF fans will probably be in heaven. Layouts and train shows will look awesome. And adding the second run of UP heritage is just gravy all over. There's the GTW heritage, a couple of CN offerings, and possible future CSX heritage releases. But I think the massive UP and BNSF release will help pave the way for these other releases and also future developments. If AZL releases more eastern and smaller road names, they have to "feed the beast" to have the funds to grow the hobby. Which if you think about it, that really isn't such a bad thing. Having such a large west and midwest base will fund the growth of AZL and thereby the North American Z scale. Now to your other comment No, I don't think if AZL does a third rerun of UP heritage that they'll just become "warehouse dust collectors". Mostly for the reasons above. But also because with a large UP fan base getting "well fed" with UP products, that will encourage EVEN more UP Z scalers and more UP Z scalers means buying more AZL products and buying more AZL products means more innovation which will help grow all of North American Z scale. Another example is Disney blu-rays and DVD's. Every few years, Disney rotates their vast movie collection. They remove some titles from circulation for a few years and then release a "new" enhanced version of the same film. This rotation helps to manage their current product distribution and keeps them from having too many dull and boring titles out at the same time. This also helps to make their catalog look new and always changing. This also happened years ago when they re-released the Beatles albums. I don't think AZL should wait another 8 years for the third rerun. Maybe 4-5 years should be a good enough time for the scarcity to regenerate the desire for a third rerun of UP heritage with the next generations of UP Z scalers and those who missed out on the first two runs.

Crazy prices It may have sold somewhere but I just did an eBay search and the only heritage AZL SD70ACe’s that came up were NS that have sold, back to January 6 of this year. But, yes, it’s basic economics that when demand exceeds supply in a free economy, the price goes up. I’m not surprised to see high prices for a popular flag of a very limited run. I guess we should be very glad AZL and its approved distributors aren’t selling the popular heritages for a much higher price right out of the gate.
