Just an observation but, who's running the MTL Z scale operation?
They did make the GP 7/9, GP 35 and SD40-2, then what happened?
I haven't seen any new "mold" freight car releases in ages.
Their recent Z product releases are just reruns and any "new" items are not appealing.
ie. Graffiti cars, Halloween themed boxcars, War of the Worlds flat cars? I mean come on, what a waste of material.
Maybe their smoking too much "weed" in Oregon.

Here, here. Well said. No new releases of interest for aeons. What’s going on over there? To what may we attribute the doldrums? Pandemic, global supply chain crisis, new cannabis state laws, or a combination thereof?
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, AZL has me nothing short of spellbound: Psychologically, I’m booked for two-years-plus. Anticipating releases for SD60s, SD50s, AARs, SD40-2s, trucks (the kind that haul piggybacks), combines, wide visions, bay windows, and Daylight consists.

My opinion only. where do you start. A lot Z scale and other MRR scales come from china. Slowly companies folded or went out of business over the past years . So any new suppliers or companies in China are to expensive or did not make very good product. So when MTL lost China suppliers for loco’s and other things. So sales in Z are not that big to justified big money into the build of product and sales is not there. As for a business money making is what it is about. Marklin has struggled over the years barely staying afloat. As for the newcomers AZL tries to do the best. Lately they have been just producing old passenger train sets. Once in a while, they will produce a freight car. As for Atlas, they have track and switches plus they’re dipping their toes into freight cars . Wish them the best.

I’d like to see MTL bring back their GP 9’s and 35’s. Also AZL bring back some GP 38’s road names that are sold out . But I wouldn’t hold my breath on that. 😵

Another run of AZL GP-38s is an excellent idea.
Likewise, an expanded run of AZL GP9s would be of great interest.
AZL GP9s could be with and without corner-edge torpedo tubes.
AZL GP9s could be with different paint schemes for the same roadname.

Better yet If someone at AZL would just maybe find out if they could produce some new shells . Like different road names ex “B&O shell with C&O engine combo .”. They could dump a lot of there GP 7’s and GP 9’s that probably has an inch of dust on them and put money back into kitty for future loco’s as long as it’s not another passenger train set . 🙄😵😆 The C&O engines I have are great little loco’s. I’d pay $30 to $40 for shell added to new GP 7 or 9.

I see MTL is staying with the "Fictional and Fooby" Z marketing plan. New releases for October have another "War of the Worlds" boxcar and a get this, a Robot Christmas Train Set... whatever that is.
I mean WHO buys this stuff? Attention Z hoarders, MTL wants your $.
Sorry men but, I'm a serious modeler of the prototype. This is a TOTAL waste of resources.
AZL Keep the throttle at notch 8 and keep the hits coming!

That's unfortunate, guess I'll pick up some of the ones Z scale monster has and dipping them in BN green and maybe some SP&S ones.

Wow What a surprise AZL does a second year of Black Friday GP 7’s and 9’s . I requested them to run them again couple years back and was told it wouldn’t happen. So what changed your minds? So any chance you could pick up the phone and call the factory you no longer use and just ask if they trashed the tooling.

So, if you want AZL GP7's anytime in the next, say, decade or so...now is the time.
