i see a new west coast trolly kit in the new issue of Ztrack goes on a shorty power truck. so is there anything i should be aware of about this power truck ztrackcenter.com/rokuhan-shorty/SA001-1 ? i really like that trolly for my port railroad as port transportation on its own track.

Your link is false, it leads to nothing ; I think You meant this model by Showcase Miniatures ?

I am talking about the showcase miniatures trolly..the kit looks pretty straight forward , i was in fact more concerned about the shorty power truck and what issues it may have becausae the model is beautiful and janky running sequences just ruin then.

Time to jump in. So the Shorty chassis are excellent, especially for the price. They run very good. But they do run fast. We worked with our friends at Raildig to offer a special cable the reduces the voltage and allows for better low speed performance. It works like a charm. This cable is designed to work with the Rokuhan controllers and is all plug and play.
I have one of the kits for the interurban here. It looks fantastic! I need to find time to build it .

If there is enough room inside, You could use the same trick as I used almost 40 years ago to align the speeds of my N locos (they ran all together with the same voltages, full speed or slow, no progressive acceleration ... like the HO "Käserbergbahn" layout in Switzerland) : put in series with the motor only (or the complete electric equipment of the vehicle, I don't know anything concerning lights) two Zener diodes in "anti-series", i.e. in series but opposite directions, with either the anodes or the cathodes connected together. So the voltage loss is about 0.6 V + Zener voltage in each direction. But since the N locos needed more curent, I milled a groove into the metal block and inserted the two diodes, insulated with a piece of "shrink tube" and embedded in thermo conductive paste, to use the metal block as a heatsink to "cool" the diodes ; this SHOULD (?) not be necessary in Z. It could also be possible to simply insert the "system" into the power cable between the track and the controller, if only a shorty runs on the corresponding section. But this configuration adds a threshold to the minimum voltage. Another idea but which I didn't test would perhaps be a power Op-Amp connected as a non inverting amplifier with a gain < 1 ? Or finally ... a simple resistor in series, at least this isn't a "gaseous plant" !

I recently bought and built this kit. The trickiest part is inserting the 6 Cab Windows. There are 2 cast inserts/ weights included, which provide enough weight and " oomph" to move the car... mine can push an MTL Boxcar on level track. The Shorty runs smooth, I tried it with my homebuilt USB powered PWM or a Rokuhan Controller. BR Boris

Extra weight and very clean track help the Shorty chassis considerably. I've made a pair of videos on some tests I've done over on our YouTube channel.

Anti Stalling tricks are also real good it bother me when i see great looking trains not running properly.

so i do have 1 question how well does that putty hold its shape and has it drooped of the chassis any? eyes the brass mikado weight wondering if that can be replaced with a putty casting of sorts.

Anti Stalling tricks are also real good it bother me when i see great looking trains not running properly. Actually, Shortys with their flexible " floating" axles seem to have less issues with pickup than many other Z drives. Weight and clean track sureley helps. I have found that evfn oxidized Maerklin track conducts better than clean looking Rokuhan🤷🏼♂️. So never assume a clean looking rail is clean😉BR Boris

I also have the Showcase Miniatures Trolley and it is an excellent kit. Eventually you will see tons of articles using Rokuhan Shorty power. Many of them require cutting apart the Shorty to space the trucks further apart which I would like to try soon. But this Trolley does not require that. My two cents is that if you check out the link above in Jeff's post rray says: "I have ran my shorty with a 470 ohm resistor in series with the motor on 10v DC and 12v DCC without problems" . This is a great way to slow them down so they "play well with others". Also, I had a bad experience with Tungsten Putty and some wagons I ballasted. The putty will flow over time and as sticky as it is if it flows into moving parts you may have damage. Treat it like a liquid or use something else.

Rob Kluz (Ztrack Center, Track Magazine, Ztrack… .. . .) was selling John Cubbin’s (Raildig.com) RD-200 ztrackcenter.com/rokuhan-shorty/RD-200 but out of stock. Same as Rob Ray mentions, with a 470 resistor but has connectors and packaging. And, while I’m on his site, I’ll repeat his note to download the FREE Trainini magazine. European, English text and makes our U.S. magazine thin. www.raildig.com/introduction/trainini-magazine/. FREE Also, Railroad Hobbyist magazine (https://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/) FREE, monthly of 200+ pages. FREE Just so ya know . . .. … (it’s out there)

Ive been looking about and im just going to get a bunch of those rok double viaduct sections and put a pair running in opposing directions as a EL Tram as its own thing to paint and weather this trolly is just so darned uniqely cool.. most other models of real trollys just never fit very well with what i did.
